NBC ran a commercial this morning during its Ryder Cup coverage for Trump National golf course in Rancho Palos Verdes. Maybe this is common and I just don’t usually see them because I typically skip ads, but it struck me as remarkable for a couple of reasons: 1) that Trump thinks there are significant number of people who would be attracted to playing golf at a place branded with his name; 2) that he’s probably right, especially among the subsample of Americans, who watch Ryder Cup golf; and 3) business must not be very good at Trump National since high-end golf courses like that in my experience typically don’t advertise.
