Anthony Anderson joins Donovan, returning to the role he had in the last few seasons, with Hugh Dancy ("Hannibal") as a prosecutor.

I don’t know why, but I really want this reboot to fail.

In the Law & Order world 10 seasons is considered a failure.

None of the detective teams after Orbach/Martin worked for me. Dennis Farina's character came off as an asshole, and the other successors - Anderson, Sisto, etc. - always seemed to be in over their heads. Perhaps the years away will give the new team enough distance from the original to make it seem (somewhat) fresh.

I got really confused about the logistics for a sec, then I remembered that black-ish is ending after this season...

While I don't know this for sure, I assume the return of the mothership will probably be on Thursdays, when the other L&O shows are currently airing.

This would mean that Dick Wolf shows would represent two nights worth (6 hour-long shows) of the NBC lineup.  Has any producer had that much programming on at once?  I'd assume that some of the more prolific sitcom showrunners would have produced as many shows as Wolf, but I don't think any of them had that many shows on at the same time.

At the very least he's looking at a tie with Mr Lear, who in 1976-77 did have "Good Times, " "The Jeffersons," "Maude," "Sanford and Son" (Demond Wilson''s final season?), "One Day At A Time" and "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" active...  B

Don’t forget the “FBI” franchise on CBS Tuesdays. That gives him nine hours of primetime real estate over two broadcast networks.

I'm not sure whether I forgot about the FBI shows or the Chicago shows, but I clearly missed the mark here.

That said, Lear is far from a slouch in this department.  A look at Wikipedia suggests Lear had more than the 6 shows Bob mentioned - "Good Times, " "The Jeffersons," "Maude," "Sanford and Son", "One Day At A Time" and "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" - on the air during 76-77.  "All in the Family" was on the air, and some shows that were one season and done.

"All's Fair" Richard Crenna and Bernadette Peters as a May-December romance between a conservative and liberal, and "The Nancy Walker Show"

Most, but not all, of these shows, aired on CBS.  And Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman was a five-nights a week program.

This would appear to give Lear nine programs, matching what Wolf will have once the Mothership returns to television.

They have scheduled "L&O."  It'll be in the Thursday time slot where the "L&O: Defense" series was supposed to be before that petered out (I guess Wolf was uncomfortable with the whole idea about a series on defense attorneys or he fell out with Carol Mendelsohn, the "CSI" creator who was going to be the showrunner).

Aaron Spelling circa 1980-86 has got to be up there in sheer volume to rival Wolf and Lear.

Earlier in the year I investigated just this question. At first I thought Quinn Martin was a lock, but I think the most he had on in any one season was like five 1-hour shows in like 1973. Aaron Spelling produced a lot more television, though a lot of it was TV movies. I think he had 6 hours of series on in late 70s, but probably in some weeks got that up to 10 hours or more including made for TV movies.

Wolf is in a league of his own though with programming series television.
