Based on our usage, Paramount+ and Disney+ are good value-for-money. Now that my wife has spotted the true crime section, Discovery+ is also good. I’ve found very little on Amazon or Netflix beyond some stand-up specials. Showtime and HBO Max were purchased to watch one series on each, and that’s really all I’ve used. Apple’s streaming service has some good stuff, but it is few and far between.

Netflix continues to be our go to streamer. I have particularly become a fan of their “Nordic Noir” series, but also a lot of their other non-American stuff. Plus they have filled a need in our house by providing access to a number of US and Canadian tv shows. I have 5 independent users of my Netflix account and it became so common for someone to text our group chat with: “can someone get off Netflix!” That my oldest daughter a couple of months ago paid the cost of upgrading to 4 simultaneous users.

I don’t even count Amazon against my steaming budget, as I had it long before they did any streaming. A number of their original series have been solid for me (I love Mrs. Maisel, and Goliath, The Expanse, and perhaps nothing better has ever been on TV/Streaming than Fleabag. God help me I always look forward to Jack Ryan, and really a lot of other series and original films). Plus, I very often spend the $2.99 to watch an old film I have a hankering for. You would to pry both Netflix and Amazon out of my cold dead hands.

I think I am still getting Amazon and Disney for free, so can’t fairly judge how worth it they are. I do appreciate being able to watch Hamilton whenever I have an urge to listen to the soundtrack, and my kids are huge fans is the Avengers and Star Wars universes. Also, I can no longer imagine a universe in which I don't have access to Ted Lasso. I pay for Paramount + to access CBS without commercials, and all the other stuff is a nice bonus (I will still occasionally continue my long term re watch if Perry Mason, and have been known to settle in for a few Mission: Impossibles).

I saved a lot of TV money moving to YoutubeTV, but if I did not need cable/Satellite/streaming to access my local channels (where I live antenna ps don’t work) I would probably just pay for streamers and do away with YoutubeTV too.

I subscribe to the Huluplex at cost and HBO Max free with HBO cable subscription, which gets me most of what I need - though if anybody has a spare Netflix slot, I wouldn't say "no" if invited.

(For some reason, Suddenlink lets me have the skinny cable lineup - affiliates, some subchannels, shopping networks - and HBO. I won't question it.)

Our county library system is good about having boxsets from Britbox and Acorn (just finished S2 of Lucy Lawless' "My Life Is Murder") as well as other network or cable shows that I may want to catch up on, and I will lean on my brother's Sling account for the three episodes of "Doctor Who" that BBC America will air this year.

I'm wavering on signing up for Peacock. I'm guessing the "Free" option will just get me access to the NBCU archives and not any of the new/international stuff....

You're one lucky bleep, Brad... Service Electric, like the vast majority of cablers, clearly labels premium suites as "full basic add-ons," not available to "economy" users like moi...

And from what I could gather before buying that single month of its premium product, P-ck free access to library series is kinda hit-or-miss... I could have had a three-month freeb of it for dropping $15+ at a well-known delivery service whose name I've deliberately forgotten, except that "supplies [were] limited"... so I won't know what is and isn't unless I go back to free.     B

ISTR a small "quill" logo at each link to a property denotes the items for which the paid option is needed.     B

Examining my bill: Suddenlink charges me at the Local Broadcast rate. HBO, Cinemax, and the cable card are zeroed out, but I am charged for the two-Tivo network in the house.

(Of note: the state Public Service Commission – which regulates cablers – just fined Suddenlink for $2.24M for failing to provide adequate service. Just in time for a state-based company, CAS, to receive approval to add Charleston to its service area.)

Competing cable-based telecom is nothing new in this part of PA... in 1957(!) Twin County (now called Astound) and Service Electric began their wiring of the Lehigh Valley...     B
