I’ve recently been rewatching Magnum… I forgot how much they tried to make the Hawaii-based series look/feel noir in those early episodes… sometimes they succeeded. Generally, they are fun to watch, though the notion that every damsel was in distress and in need of being rescued obviously wouldn’t play well today. But good humor, great cast chemistry, and infinitely better than the abysmal remake. 

Rick, TC, and Higgins all started out very generic, but as the seasons progressed, the writers gave the actors more to work with. I did also recently rewatch “McQ,” which was John Wayne’s knockoff of “Bullitt.” Mosley played a minor role in that and did the best he could with what he had to work with, which wasn’t much. 

I still recall the fake “Conan in Hawaii” episode of Late Night, shot in Jersey in freezing winter I believe, when they had one fake palm tree they kept moving into shot, and at one point Conan said they were obviously in Hawaii, and as evidence pointed to Rick and TC, and both Manetti and Mosley were there… it was a silly bit, but it was funny.
