Hi Sue - Have you seen them in Big Sur?  Ventana Wildlife Society has a webcam on Redwood Queen who has laid an egg in March. --hk

Hi Sue - Unfortunately I've only ever seen them on birdcams.  One day I do hope to see them flying overhead. --hk

Aloha Helen. A bunch of years back I went with Jean down to the Pinnacles to see the condors, camp, and visit with Richard who was doing a lot work with the condors at the time. The Pinnacles is just probably one set of hills east of Big Sur. One of these days soon I can do all those things. Be well everyone, Stan 😎

A few years ago, the Pinnacles National Park Foundation held a fundraising event at the park.  A friend and I went to the all-day event.  We learned about the work being done with Condors at the park and the Oakland Zoo.  Then we hiked with a guide.  We saw many, many Turkey Vultures and Common Ravens.  We were beginning to think we wouldn't see any Condors when all of a sudden three Condors appeared.  It was magnificent!

Francis, please let us know which language you intend for Akialoa and  for sila.

There is a Sanskrit word, sila, meaning  morality.

There is a Hawaiian  word Akialoa meaning an extinct green bird.

Thanks!

Best

hi patrice, akialoa is indeed an extinct hawaiian honeycreeper, my favorite taxon of birds. sila is actually the tagalog word for “they”, which is a preferred pronoun of mine. thanks for noticing!
