I remember going to Arrowhead Marsh with our group some years ago and seeing an avocet with many legs like this video, but it was a female.  I enjoyed this video from EarthSky News. —Carol

Nifty video!

Are you sure the bird at Arrowhead Marsh was female? It certainly could have been - but (unlike jacanas) avocet males share pretty much equally with their mates in caring for their chicks. I can picture the babies running to papa if he was the closest parent....

Seems like there will be some in Costa Rica 
where I am doing a bird tour in April.
