Hi,
  I tried the following.
add a new Account Type and give the name as a Japanese same : 経費
However, it does not appear in the name. Only ascii characters get recorded and others ignored.

How, can Japanese names be given to account types/name Journal names etc?

Maybe it is the same issue as for Lao where a custom font must be used:

Is it on Windows?

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 and I have tryied with the Chinese (zh_CN)
language, sorry no Japanese available. I see the interface translated
and I can create account types with the text you pasted. So everything
is okey from PoV.

Could you test the trunk version?
Could you test with the Chinese language?

Hi,
   You could be right.
I am connecting to Linux machine remotely by TightVNC and both trytond and tryton run on the remote PC via TightVNC. Maybe TightVNC is the cause of this trouble..... Not sure how to make TightVNC transmit non-ascii characters if that is the cause.
