Be careful out there folks!
An alarming difference in the fatality rate:
“On a pedal bike, the chance of dying from an injury is about three-tenths of 1 percent... On an e-bike, the data indicates it is 11 percent."

The article is mostly about the dangers of e-motos, but unfortunately the term e-bikes is used by many to include these.

I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't some slight increase of risk from e-bikes (peddle-assist, without a throttle), simply because more people are riding and many without knowing basic safe cycling, such as riding on the wrong side of the road.

I agree that "e-bikes" can include many styles. Not sure what an e-moto is? But I am also sure that this reported risk is worse in big cities in that chaotic traffic. Still, caution and wisdom is necessary with all modes and areas....
Thanks
Dale

The article uses the term e-moto on occasion and explains the difference, but unfortunately it uses the term e-bikes most of the time even when talking about e-motos.

These "bikes" don't require pedaling, can go much faster, and the weight of the machine is not a problem since a powerful electric motor takes care of that. They are really electric motorcycles and should be treated as such. And are in Europe as mentioned in the article.

I think it likely that lumping e-motos in with e-bikes will make the general public less bike-friendly than they already are.
