Dear Trends.Earth team,

I am currently working with the Water Use Efficiency (WUE) metric in the Trends.Earth QGIS plugin and would appreciate your clarification on the datasets used.

According to the SDG 15.3.1 Good Practice Guidance and the information provided in the Trends.Earth User Guide, WUE is calculated as:

WUE = NPP/ET

The Trends.Earth User Guide clearly states that evapotranspiration (ET) data is sourced from the MOD16A2 product. However, I have not been able to confirm the source of the Net Primary Production (NPP) data used.

Could you please confirm the dataset used for NPP in Trends.Earth? Is it derived from the MOD17 product, or is it sourced from another dataset?

Thank you for your support.

Christina

Dear Christina,

Trends.Earth uses Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) from MOD13Q1 Collection V6.1 product as a proxy to estimate NPP -  please see this url for more details: https://docs.trends.earth/en/latest/for_users/features/landdegradation.html#productivity

Best regards,
Gabriel
