Delete/insert cells with shift up/down?

to TreeSheets

I was trying to find a software solution to an organization problem I had, wherein I needed to be able to be able to replicate the shift up/down behavior that a spreadsheet permits.

For instance, this is what I need:

Deleting "B" from
[A] [B]
[C] [D]

Would result in:
[A] [D]
[C] [   ]
(because you can't have a 3-square grid with one corner missing, just a blank cell there)

Can TreeSheets do this at all?  I tried and it left me with
[A] [   ]
[C] [D]

or
[A]
[C]

or
[C] [D]

I couldn't get it to do the behavior I wanted (which basically treats the two columns as independent lists which simply need aligning left-to-right).  Calc can (if right-clicking on the cell to be added or inserted before), but I'd like to avoid its formatting - wanted something that would behave more like Writer as far as formatting ordinary text.  If TreeSheets *can* do this it would be ideal, but I'm not seeing how to at this point.  It would have to be able to *add* cells in as well, turning
[A] [B]
[C] [D]
 into
[A] [E]
[C] [B]
[   ] [D]
if I inserted a cell before B to push B down one slot.

A summary of my situation which may explain the reason I don't just put the two columns in separate grids:
I've got two (or more) separate lists which I'm working on simultaneously, and which need to constantly be aligned in a "one of these with one of those" situation, but which ones align will change as I add or delete.

It may be that TreeSheets isn't what I need, but I'm not sure what *is*.  This seems to be a behavior most people don't need, which limits my options.  (And Writer is definitely out because it's impossible to do this within a table, and it's also impossible to manage two or three separate numbered or bulleted lists side-by-side across multiple pages - columns wrap within a single page.)  If TreeSheets can't I may be forced to use Calc, but the formatting will drive me nuts much of the time if I do.

I look forward to any advice or suggestions you may have. :)

There certainly is no auto-shift-column-up functionality.

You can shift cells up manually by selecting the cells in question, and doing CTRL+cursorup.

If the columns are really independent, you should make them independent, then this will indeed happen automatically, e.g.

Gotcha.  I don't see that they'll be able to align well, then, so I may
need to just try to use Calc. The idea is that at any given point I can
look at, say, row 5, and see which cell corresponds to that for each
separate list, and separating them would make that impossible..

Thanks for the reply!
