On Saturday the Ballarat Tramway Museum will mark 50 years or heritage
tram operation and that will include running one of my favourite trams -
their No 40.
it started out as one of the original drop centre trams in 1913.
The attached photo shows it in original condition at the Burke Rd terminus.
When the MMTB took over it was classified as a C class and retained the
same number.
In 1951 it was sold to the SEC for use in Ballarat and ran until the end
of SEC operations in 1971.
From 1974 to date it has run on Ballarat's heritage tramway.
