I was looking through some old pics yesterday to fill a request and came
across the two attached.

The first shows 'Babybino' 3532 when it was just 1 year old - it is now
20 years old.

Second pic shows the "Combino Plus" from Portugal sent to Melbourne in
an attempt by Siemens to get an order for what became the G class.

Both pics are at Malvern Depot which is still the home base for Combino
maintenance.

Should have placed an order there and then for the combino plus and also for the Bombardier Eurotram  as well.

Unlike the Combino D class, the Combino Plus was a very good tram from a passenger perspective. Unfortunately Siemens had sullied its reputation in Australia with its el cheapo D Class.

Not sure that the Combino Plus/Avenio would be suitable for some of Melbourne's curve radii. A tram with proper swivelling bogies is the answer. And the Eurotram is now an extinct model.
