black background in commit window

Since a couple of weeks back, my commit window has a black background in the message textfield, as in attached pic, on a Windows server 2016 (updated)

i've tried uninstall /reinstall,

reset of log message cache

reset of all available color settings in properties.

go to settings->advanced, find the entry ScintillaDirect2D and set the value to false.
