Hi all,

Just recently TortoiseSVN went bonkers on me and reinstalling doesn't help. I'm using Windows 10 and TortoiseSVN 1.12.2 (also tried installing 1.10.5, same issues).

Here are some of the problems:

1. If I go into the log and try to revert one file out of a revision (right click the file, click "Revert changes from this revision") I get this error (twice) and then the window is frozen and I have to kill it with task manager:

svn_error.png

2. When I do "SVN Update" on a branch, the TortoiseSVN update window seems to open off-screen, just to the right of my monitor. If I hover over the icon in the start bar so that I get a thumbnail of the window, it just shows an empty, white window. It does seem to update successfully.

3. If I open the log and try to revert a whole revision (right click the revision (not the file), "Revert changes from this revision"), a similar thing happens as in #1, except I don't get an error message. The window freezes and I have to kill it with task manager. Clicking X or "Close window" from the start bar doesn't close it.

I've tried repairing and reinstalling but it has the same problems. I don't know what changed, it used to work fine.

Can anyone help?

Given the message box you've posted, I'm pretty sure this is a problem with Subversion itself, not with the Tortoise front end -- although the windows opening in strange places is it's own issue, and would be a problem in Tortoise.
I suggest trying command-line SVN operations to do what you want and see if that works.

You should also delete any data TSVN stores in the registry under HKCU\Software\TortoiseSVN.
That will get rid at least of the dialog-positioning problem.

As for the error message you get: maybe a fresh checkout will help here.

Thanks for the tip Stefan, deleting the registry entries did indeed fix the window problem. I don't think it was just a position problem, as even cascading windows didn't bring it back, and it looked like an empty white window in the thumbnail. But whatever was going on with the windows, that fixed it. And fresh checkout seems to fix the errors, for a partial-checkout of a subdirectory of a branch anyway. It will take me 10 hours to do a full checkout ;)
