Adding .git .gitignore to "Global ignore pattern" does not work

As the title says, adding .git .gitignore to "Global ignore pattern" does not work.
But manually editing the "Subversion configuration file" does.
This might be a bug but it might also be that I do not understand how TortoiseSVN is supposed to work.
Just in case, fyi.
