Manually deleting svn:external resulted in HEAD revision being deleted

I manually deleted (Windows delete) an external folder in the repo-browser that was linked to a HEAD revision of a utility library.  The dialog prompt for the removal listed the folder name, but not the svn path. I proceeded with the delete thinking it was just deleting the external folder from the trunk, then realized I should have removed it using the trunk properties.  I subsequently realized that the HEAD revision theexternal had been linked to was deleted in its entirety when I did the manual delete.  I didn't get any indication that the deletion was going to specifically affect the HEAD revision I had been linked to. Is this known behavior? I looked through the help documentation, but didn't see anything in reference to this particular scenario.

Yes this is known behavior: you should see that you're working with an external from the icon overlay.
