Authentication on http access problem

I have a repository which is accessed through http;//server/blablah

no ssh involved

Problem is that the repo browser keeps on asking for authentication again and again and again which makes the whole thing impossible to use.

I have tried to delete the auth directory in %APPDATA%\Roaming ... etc

tried clearing the auth memory in the settings

nothing works, of course the "remember auth details" is ticked in the auth dialog box but it keeps asklng for username and password dozens of tiimes. so what am i doing wrong and how to stop that nightmarish behaviour?
