Topeka Mennonite friends,

Cathy Bitikofer and her family came earlier this summer and helped Bob Coon get ready to move from assisted living to health care at Goshen. They didn't have a room immediately, but he moved soon after. They came again and stayed at my house the week after July 4th while I was visiting my brother in TN and had a nice visit with Bob in his new room and Dorothy and Russ/Kathy. Now I am forwarding this email from Cathy about Bob going into the hospital. (Bob in the blue chair is at my house.) --Tami

He was taken to Goshen hospital this morning after running a temp all night and having difficulty breathing. He has pneumonia and what they call para-influenza. He's getting morphine and oxygen enough to keep him comfortable, but his heart ekg is very irregular. He has a living will in place, and is getting only what he needs for discomfort relief and to lessen his anxiety. He's in a private room now. Russ and Kathy are there, Dorothy was able to visit and say her goodbyes. John Martens, our cousin, came to visit, as did a pastor from Silverwood. Dorothy said he was sleeping when she came in and talked to him but didn't want to stay or see him go. I was able to talk to him this morning. I'm so glad we could visit with him when we did!   You may have us visit again soon, we'll keep you posted.

Bob Coon died this morning. Bitikofers will be coming out sometime soon. I know nothing more about arrangements yet. --Tami
