Data Graphs vs All Other Collection Types

Hi,

I am curious about some EDG behavior. The following two screenshots are from a Data Graph (top) and Enterprise Asset Collection (bottom). I have noticed that in non-Data Graph collections the class selected for the Main Class of Search Panel drives the classes available, whereas in the Data Graph all EDG classes appear in the dropdown even when the Main Class is selected. Yes, it does default to the identified class, but it does not limit the classes to the subclasses. Is this intentional? If so, do you have recommendations for how to limit the classes for a data graph so that the Search menu behaves the same way as all other asset collection types?

Hi GaBriella,

The built-in collection types are based on TQ created, known schemas, and so behave in a specific way. They have the built-in idea of a Viewpoint which limits what’s visible.

Data Graphs is designed to support arbitrary schemas where TQ/EDG have no knowledge beforehand.

What I often do is create an artificial abstract class and make things of interest in a specific Data Graph subclasses of that, and then make that one abstract class the MainClass. You make have to add extra Ontologies collections to make that work if the same schema is used for multiple Data Graphs.
