Hi everyone,

I have a 1992 48’ with a leaking fuel tank.  I am looking at options for repair or replacement.  I currently have single 300 gallon tanks outboard of the 3208 Cats.  The port tank developed a healthy leak and I plan on addressing both tanks.  If anyone has experience with repairs or replacement I would appreciate any advice/suggestions.

I appreciate your time.

You'll sleep a lot better replacing both tanks. The other thing is if one of them starts leaking and trips the bilge pumps you got a major oil spill. Evergreen equipment I'm sure some other people have got more information about them they do a beautiful job they're all certified.

Dave,
I just had Derrick Willhite from Salty Boys Boat Works in Bremerton look at the tanks on a 36 GB that I was considering. Derrick looked it over and gave me a very fair quote to cut them out and replace them. I didn't buy the boat for other reasons but if I had, I would have definitely had Salty Boys Boatworks do the work. If you go shopping for a team to do it, I think he would be very competitive and do good work.
All the Best,
David Harris

I have a 1986 sundeck. I did some research and found Coastline Marine Tanks was competitive even with shipping from Washington to Connecticut. They built the original tank and still had the desvío. The tank arrives on Friday.

Hi Dave

I also have a 48, which had a leaking tank. The tanks had already been replaced once and as such were already split into two per side. I have Cummins engines and was able to remove some equipment in front of the engines, swing the tank around and up thru the floor hatches. They then actually fit out the door. Since you have a one-piece tank, they may have to be cut to get out.

If you go down the route of replacing them, I got my new ones from Coastline in Bellingham. They make many tanks for various boats. I have a drawing that was used to manufacture my new ones if that is of any help. They were around $1500 per tank, but was a few years ago.

We also had Coastline manufacture new tanks for our '89 34' sedan last year. If your tanks are original to the boat then I would recommend they be replaced and not patched/repaired. A pair of 35 yr old tanks have served a full life IMHO.
