Regex Search slows blocks client

Hi,

just compiled and tried the 3.1-rc.
I noticed that searching was slow and with larger buffers and long lines it also stopped the client for about 30 seconds, while utilizing the processor 100% (1 core).

I discovered that there has been introduced some regex searching. https://github.com/tmux/tmux/commit/4ea07716de541aea5b8118ac0cfc4bc3bd30cb80
After reverting this commit, the search functionality is behaving normal again.

Would be glad if someone else could please confirm what I experienced. And I would suggest to revert that commit and ask the author to invest a bit more to get its behaviour fixed.
