Hi,

I am a new user of tmux.  I started a session about two weeks ago and it went great until I left home for a vacation. After I came back after 6 days, the tmux session is gone. I confirmed that Linux did not restart.

My question is: what's the recommended ways to find out the reason of tmux session closing? any logs of tmux I can look into?

Thanks!
Han

Are you sure tmux is no longer running at all and the socket wasn't just deleted?

If it isn't running then the socket doesn't matter because deleting it wouldn't kill tmux, it would just stop you attaching to it.

There is no way to find out what happened to it after the fact unless there is anything in your system logs showing it crashed or was killed.

You can run with -v to create logs to see if it happens again but they will be very big.

What tmux version are you using?

What do you mean by "the socket wasn't just deleted"?  How can I check/confirm that?

Thanks for the info.  Btw,  when I logged in back today and first run "tmux attach",  the output was :

$ tmux attach
no sessions

My tmux version is 2.8 :

$ tmux -V
tmux 2.8

Thanks again!

It probably either crashed or was killed, you could see if there is anything in /var/log/messages but otherwise your best bet is just to see if it happens again.
