It would be very useful to be able to directly upload a static set of filtered tiddlers instead of uploading the whole TW. I.e in addition to the possibility of exporting to your hard drive, you could export to e.g GitHub/Tiddlyspot or wherever.

The background is a discussion and an idea to open/close tiddlers purely by means of CSS. This is possible (see article and demo 3) and means one can get a static TW where the visitor can still "navigate" in some sense. Static (lightweight) wikis are of course good for slow devices (e.g phones) or when space is scarce (e.g Raspi) but they have so far been limited because all tids have to be displayed all the time, which makes for long/complex documents OR not very informative ones. The "navigational" aspect would make a big difference for usability as we could present static but complex documents.

So, it would be very useful if there was a GitHub/GitLab/Tiddlyspot saver that also features "export as html" for immediate publishing of static TWs. Is this possible or am I misunderstanding something?

Hi Mat

The current export mechanism in the browser is built around generating single files because of the limitations of the primary download saver. It would certainly be possible to extend some savers to be able to save multiple, arbitrary files, and then create an "export" button that automatically outputs an entire static site.

The GitHub saver might be a good place to start investigating.

Best wishes

Jeremy.

Folks,

It would be helpful if such a mechanism allowed a filename to be set in a field in each tiddler if the default based on "title" is not appropriate. The ability to also set CSS to include with a static page would address the original thread.

Some possibilities
  • I believe such a feature available not just in the github saver would allow TiddlyWiki to be built as a website development tool, one fills in some key values and exports a multi page site. In fact you could import a multiple html file site, modify and export.
  • Another opportunity this may offer is the ability to export content settings and scripts from a tiddlywiki to a server eg php node to configure aspects of the server, this would not be publicly available, just a designer tool. It would allow us to capture community knowledge to assist adoption of tiddlywiki on multiple platforms.
  • The export to clipboard and tiddler raised in this thread would also assist.
Regards
Tony
