Hello everyone,

I would like to propose some modifications (improvements) for the new Explore tab.

Modifications

  • Changed the name (caption) to be more accurate: Explore --> ''System Explorer'' -- similar to Windows Explorer
  • Introduced 2 new concepts: ''leaf node'' (similar to a file) and ''branch node'' (similar to a folder) -- similar to Windows Explorer.
  • Removed prefixes and suffixes (background noise) for the leaves and branches to make them more easier to read and cleaner.
  • Improved usability by separating leaves from branches -- leaves first and branches last -- similar to Windows Explorer.

You can test it here (v2)

NEW: Now it works well also with syslink on! - based on a Jeremy solution.

This is my first intervention so... please be gentle with me!

Thanks!

Mat

Ah, you're talking about the held back feature that one can find in the sidebar in

http://tiddlywiki.com/prerelease/

Thanks for sharing moros and great you're picking this up because I would like for it to be good enough for use. Jeremy isn't happy with the way it currently stands.

So, I've tried it and like it. At first I was confused both by what you meant with branches and leaves and by the display according to those, but I now see what you mean. The distinction makes sense but I think it needs some explanation in the UI.

Actually, I think it would be easier to understand the concept if the representation is closer to what is is, i.e instead of arrow-buttons ">" there could be suffixing slash-buttons "/" as they occur in the titles

I think this also makes sense as an optional display in the advanced search results for system tiddlers. It is really tricky to search for e.g some core image and this would probably help.

By the way, I was surprised at how beautifully compact the listing in your demo turns out to be.

Again, thanks for sharing moros!

Warning: it works well only with syslink off ! (Control Panel > Info > Advanced > Parsing > Inline Parse Rules > syslink)

Come to think of it, the whole word on the line can be the button!

Hi to all and thanks a lot for your appreciation. I'm very glad that you find my work useful.

Yes it's all about that held back feature that I missed for a long time. I had a personal version of the new Explore tab in my private wiki but it had some unresolved problems. Once an official version came out I could easily integrate my ideas. The official version also fixed my problems.

@Mat, I will think about your suggestion. Maybe I'll make a second demo to test your idea.

Thanks again.
Adrian.

Hello again,

I've returned with a new version (v2) incorporating Mat ideas and a few other esthetic changes (e.g. icons for leaves and branches).
You can test the new version here.

Adrian.
