Will this new development likely affect TW direction in the future (seeing as Microsoft *may* turn all their stuff into Electron Apps)?

Hi Dave,

That's not about Electron Apps. ... It's about the browser engine. I think, they'll still call it Edge and it will look the same but the internals will be different.

Chromium it the open source version of Chrome browser. The browser itself consists of several elements.

2 important are: The rendering-engine and the javascript-engine

At the moment

MS uses: EdgeHTML for rendering and Chakra as the js-engine
Chromium uses: Blink for rendering and V8 as js-engine
Firefox uses: Gecko Quantum for rendering and SpiderMonkey as the js-engine

I think it's clear, that they will drop EdgeHTML. I'm not so sure, if they also drop Chakra. ... BUT we'll see.

Also see:

 - MS-Blog post, which contains a lot of marketing bla-bla.

 - mozilla blog post, which also discusses some pro and cons.

have fun!

Hi,

The real world is a bit more complicated. See: https://youtu.be/lD5IhYNIKvk?t=1854

Because there also is Apple with Safari and others :)

Thanks! That's why I love this group - you get the inside track on things :)

I was just listening to a podcast and they were "fortune telling" about why Microsoft is doing this, and I wondered if it would affect us.

I don't think, that it will affect TiddlyWiki much. Depending on how much they really change, we may even have advantages, if chrome-browser extensions will work with MS too.
