Friends,

I am looking for a number of tasks for TW5 to work for me that would allow me to improve my current work flow. While I have been using TW for a number of very simple tasks, I am having difficulty finding what I think should be easier functions. I look forward to your pointing me in the correct direction to continue learning on how to make the most of TW5.

What:
I am looking to make a master case TW which would include checklist or report templates that would create copies, with new tags, for the user to then fill or complete.

Why:
I work on case investigations with multiple devices that require multiple process that may be repeated over different dates. I would want to click on a template to create a new tiddler for that particular process at that time -- to record notes. I would then probably have to repeat that same process on either a different device or the same device again to record changes.

Expectations:
To have a tiddler that is protected so that the 'master' copy is not changed on the case TW but can be copied to a new tiddler that I would then tag by device, suspect, or date.

You must describe a little more about your setup. TW5 or TWC or TW5 on nodejs. You imply some kind of collaboration wiki or that the users should store things - how?

Mat,

Again thank you for your response. I am using TW5 and I am not sure about nodejs, I am just using Firefox to read and save through a browser.

Why:
I am writing 'case notes' for a forensic examination of computers, which I would have to testify from. I would also need to write a 'formal report' which would be a summary of the evidence located as well as the basic processes that I use. All of my work is single user at a single station -- due to the nature of the evidence, nothing is transmittable electronically.

Expectations:
I think I want to create a master TW that I would then copy to use for each case. Within each case, I would want to have tiddlers that are master copy tiddlers. These would be 'device evaluation', 'internal device inspection', 'drive removal', 'drive imaging method #1', 'drive imaging method #2', etc. I would have multiple devices on my case, so I would want to use the 'device evaluation' tiddler for each device, but tag them by evidence number. It is important, to keep each tiddler similar to avoid defense accusations, as well as my OCD, that my notes are 'missing' something.

End case:
When I am done, I think I would export only the 'final report' tiddlers to create the summary report to distribute. I would then have a 'webpage on a CD' that I could give to the DA to present as a hyperlink document on the screen to the jury. From there, she could go from case, to evidence, to device, to drive, to image/evidence, and then also have tiddlers that explain the technical information as needed. I would then use my 'case notes' tiddlers to answer the 'stump the chump' questions about details of my exact forensic methods.

For your use it sounds like you have a consistent set of sections for data input. For that I would create input forms so that you could fill out the different sections and then click a button that generated the required tiddlers from that. If you look at the Add Citation tab of this tiddler you can see a simple example of what I mean. I don't have any examples of something as complex as what you are asking about, but I could help you make something if that looks like it would be useful. I think that the best way to do it is pretty much what you have described, there would be a plugin that contains all of the required tiddlers for input and creation, you can get a new wiki (or create a master version and make copies of that), import the plugin and once you have created the required tiddlers you can delete the plugin to just leave the tiddlers you need. If this sounds like what you would want I could help you create it.

The biggest difference from what you describe under 'what' is that you would fill in the form and it would create the tiddlers instead of creating an empty template that you then fill in. I think that this way is easier, saves a lot of time, and it isn't significantly harder to create.

I don't have any good answer to your question. Spontaneously, the bit about both letting the user fill in stuff and save but simultaneously not letting them manipulate tiddlers so that stuff might be missing sounds tricky (but I'm no coder, so maybe it's simple). Or maybe you don't mean that people will try to mes things up, only that the potential "mess up features" should be decently hidden? That should be simple.

...otherwise, a thought might be some iframe solution as the sandboxing can let you manipulate one part but not the other.

I recall one or possibly two people from the later hangouts talking about using TW in contexts relevant to yours. Or maybe that was you participating? Might be worth looking up. I think one of the people I'm referring to brings it up in his introduction so it should be easy to find. Might have been the very latest hangout or second latest. ...again, if it wasn't you.
