Just wondering who'll be first out of the gate with a NodeGUI hosted Tiddlywiki offering...

Coda,

Looks interesting yet I can't help that think in some ways tiddlywiki is already superior. Tiddlywiki can contain the SDK, editor, instructions and data all in the same file.

Am I wrong but is nodegui for coders only?

If the publishing and distribution methods are better I would rather see these options introduced to TiddlyWiki than the other way around, but then I am biased.

Keep sharing your discoveries, and if possible add your own assessment, rather than just a link, even if the assessment comes later.

Regards

Hi Tony

Yes. It's akin to NW.js (and Electron). So consider it a "TiddlyDesktop alternative" and you'll be on track. right now it's still too early in the dev cycle from what I've read, but the mission sounds interesting.

An assessment would be better coming from Arlen, I think - TiddlyServer-backed TWs running in NodeGUI would be a nice all-round fit, I think. And besides, I really don't have the time these days.

Hi Everyone

Electron and nw.js are alternate takes on marrying the Node.js runtime with the Chromium browser, and make it possible to create native apps that integrate web browser functionality.

node-gui is subtly different: it combines the Node.js runtime with the Qt cross platform GUI framework: https://www.qt.io/, and it doesn’t integrate a web browser.

The promise of node-gui is that it can be much lighter weight than Electron or nw.js (browsers are huge these days), and be a bit closer to the metal in that Qt is a fairly low level API.

If one were to write a TiddlyDesktop-like thing in node-gui it therefore wouldn’t be able to integrate the browser view, but instead would rely on an external browser.

Best wishes

Jeremy
