After a long busy time I restart with TW and now I plan to start with TW5.
It works really nice, but I have a question.

Sometimes in a tiddler I like to make a link to a Word-document or a pdf-document.
Especially when I can us something from a manual.

I found this

[[open file://C:\Data\TiddlyWiki Janna\Documenten/to/wiki/ipad_gebruikershandleiding.pdf]]

but the file does not open by clicking on it.

Thanks a lot for your help.

try this:

[ext[open|file://C:/Data/TiddlyWiki Janna/Documenten/to/wiki/ipad_gebruikershandleiding.pdf]]

* "ext" is for "external link"
* the word "open" appears as the clickable link text
* the remainder (following the "|") is a Windows local path/file reference
* use *forward* slash in all paths, even in Windows.

Also, if the the target .pdf file is in the same folder (or a subfolder) as the TiddlyWiki document, then you can use a *relative* path.  Something like this:

[[open|ipad_gebruikershandleiding.pdf]]
or
[[open|some/subfolder/ipad_gebruikershandleiding.pdf]]

[ext[open|ipad_gebruikershandleiding.pdf]]
or
[ext[open|some/subfolder/ipad_gebruikershandleiding.pdf]]
