It is interesting to note large tiddlers take longer for the gradient to transition which has the effect of "organically" indicating longer tiddlers even before scrolling.
Your hide me macro is cute. Here is an option for you. Since when reading the text, not in the process of authoring content, you may want to hide the icons. Perhaps you can do what I do.
I have a tiddler $:/config/author-mode containing yes ort no, and a check box to toggle it. Inside your macro you can have a section in side a list with the filter "[{
$:/config/author-mode}match[yes]]" such that if it matches no the icons remain hidden.
Its nice to build this into multiple macros such that a single switch changes the output. I commonly use designer-mode, author-mode and debug-mode. The thing is at the time you are writing you macro it is easy to identify what you would like to show in what mode.
Adopting such de facto standards are a good habit and introduces optional applications of features.
