latex shortcuts in katex plugin???

Is it possible to "\def" shortcuts in katex as you would in a normal latex document?

Example:

\def \bfx {\mathbb{X}}

I've attempted this using the tiddlywiki macro functionality (<<bfx>>) but without success. Help?
