Hi,

I am building a personal database and have chosen TW5 as it best fits my needs (so far).

Over time I will accumulate large amounts of text that I will need to store in different tiddlywiki files in order to keep them small enough for decent performance. The topics of the different wiki files are connected thematically, so I need to find a way to make them accessible from one file to another.

I have searched plugins but only found the "include plugin" (http://tiddlywiki.abego-software.de) as well as the "SharedTiddlersPlugin" (http://yakovl.bplaced.net/TW/STP/STP.html) but they seem to be incompatible with TW5 (?) as I can not install them...

I am grateful for any suggestions of plugins that link / connect different TW5 html-files!

Thanks,
Stef

Nice to have you on board!

IMO it depends on the hardware you use. eg: mobile vs PC. If you use a decent PC imo you TW is good to work with 10.000+ text tiddlers, without any real performance problems. ...

My view about this is completely different, if you use mobile devices. First of all I personally only want to use them to view content and make fast "single tiddler notes". .. So the preferable way (for me) her is creating static single page html files per tiddler, with decent linking. ...

What does it mean if you write: "I need to make them accessible".

a) does it mean, you want to have a full text search, that searches all of them.
b) does it mean you want to "transclude" content from one TW to an other TW
c) does it mean you just want to link from one TW to a tiddler in an other TW.

As you found out SharedTiddlersPlugin is for TWclassic only. And this question suggests, that you want to transclude / include stuff from one TW into another TW.

As I wrote. As long as you can go with one TW you should try to go with one TW, because you have all possibilities.

If you use well designed tags, it will be relatively easy to export a big bunch of connected tiddlers to split TWs.

I am grateful for any suggestions of plugins that link / connect different TW5 html-files!

The nodejs server has the possibility to combine tiddlers from several TW editions and display them as one TW. .. It's the "includeWikis" parameter, that needs to be properly set. .. Also every tiddler is one file here. So moving single tiddlers is just using the file explorer.

see german Germany configuration: https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyWiki5/blob/master/editions/de-DE/tiddlywiki.info#L19

german Austria content https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyWiki5/tree/master/editions/de-AT/tiddlers
german Germany content: https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyWiki5/tree/master/editions/de-DE/tiddlers

So german Germany content just defines additional information needed.

hope that helps

Thank you, that help me quite a bit. :-)

Unfortunately, you lost me at node.js... I guess I will have to read up on some technical stuff.

I do need to have the TW avaible on my android tablet (at home), mostly for reading, not editing the TW. So for now Dropbox is fine, but I'd like to have the TW available from anywhere in the future.
I assume I will have to buy some webspace to run TW on a server?

Hi Stef

You would indeed have to buy some webspace to run TW as a server. Or you might be able to just use an old PC in the closet at home - or a raspberry pi.

If you're not ready for Node.js I'd suggest just continuing with the standalone edition; the Node.js configuration will be there for you when you're ready to upgrade.

I do hope at some point to be able to work on a Dropbox plugin for TW5. With their JS API it should be possible to do some of the tiddler sharing stuff you're talking about.

Best wishes

Jeremy.
