I'm delighted to announce that TiddlyWiki version 5.1.8 has finally been released to:

Remember to keep careful backups before upgrading existing wikis at:

This has turned out to be a fairly major new release, with many bug fixes and new features, and many improvements to the documentation:

* New online plugin library
* New warning banner when a reload is needed after adding plugins
* New railroad plugin
* Eight new languages
* New facility for setting a page background image
* Updated KaTeX plugin with improved symbol support
* New "full" edition with all new languages and plugins

See the release note at http://tiddlywiki.com/#Release%205.1.8 for more details.

I'd like to personally thank everyone who has helped with this release - more individuals than ever before. It's been a difficult time with illness and work, and the gap between releases has stretched far too far, but I'm very happy with the progress we've made with this release. TiddlyWiki seems to be getting better and better.

As usual, feedback is gratefully received!

Best wishes

Yeeee-haw!!!

Even if I've of course seen most of it in the prerelease, it is interesting to be met by HelloThere and I think there is a striking balance between linking to those informative key-feature tiddlers and simultaneously keeping an informal and conversational tone. That, and the images, creates a much more living face to it all.

And including an imagelink to HelpingTiddlyWiki in such a prominent place - excellent! (IMO, it is one of the most important tiddlers!)

Thank you so much for your fantastic work - and thanks everyone who has contributed!

Hi Jeremy

Hooray - Congratulations and thank you very much for this update! :-)

I wrote a TiddlyWiki Jingle yesterday to show my gratitude.

Even if it sounds like some ol' jazz tune it IS an original composition and it should be quite obvious that the "hook of the melody" is a trill made by singing Tidd-ly Wiki :-).

My lacking skills for writing text/lyrics should be apparent in the fact that the text consists of 12 Tidd-ly Wikis and some extra "tiddly's" - just for the sake of getting the message delivered ;-)...

I've recorded every instrument on my guitar via a guitar synth on a loop machine (except for the drums - they were played live/in sync with the loop station on a "BeatBuddy" drum pedal..) - no pc was involved..

Melody is notated in MuseScore and the video with "karaoke" title overlays is made in KdenLive.

Video score is created online on musescore.com (or .org...)

All software used is free or open source... (I am a paying subscriber to MuseScore org services.. - you can use it for free)

My TiddlyWiki Jingle for TW5 is licensed CC (hope it's the right license I chose?) - and if you like it you could set it up on a karaoke system on a bar i Paris in June - and sing your hearts out - Tidd-ly Wiki - 12 times in a row...

Lyrics could be improved at this gathering - style is swing/jazz so some improvising is encouraged when singing it :-)

Cheers Måns Mårtensson

Great to see this release, but I'm having trouble with the upgrader which seems to be breaking all my single quotes (they all appear as '). I have used these in various places around filter strings and in javascript macros and widgets, as well as in normal text, so it is causing me a headache. Tried in both Firefox and Chrome with the same result. I also tried downloading an empty TW and creating a tiddler with single quotes which were handled correctly by the upgrader. I didn't have this problem a few weeks ago when I upgraded my wikis to the prerelease.

Any ideas what might be going on? Have I messed up my character encoding or something?

Cheers,

Neil.

I've had that problem before in one of the pre-release versions, and Jeremy said back then it was a bug, and it was solved.
Maybe it crept back in or something else broke it again, not sure, only he can tell. Anyway, it's probably nothing wrong you did.

I had the same problem and saw that others also reported it. I spent a lot of time trying the same things you've tried. What worked in the end was exporting all my tiddlers to json format, following the instructions Eric gave here:
https://groups.google.com/d/msgid/tiddlywiki/a7d986a2-e389-49f3-929d-6cb1aee6ff7a%40googlegroups.com?utm_medium=email&utm_source=footer
I was then able to drag the exported file into an empty new version without any errors.

I haven't had a chance to investigate, but it looks like there was a problem with the single quote fix. I'll release 5.1.9 tomorrow to resolve this, apologies for the hiccup.

Hi Neil, Camarillo and Duarte

Please can you confirm the version number of the wikis before you tried the upgrade? Also, did you perform the upgrade at http://tiddlywiki.com/upgrade.html?

Many thanks,

Jeremy

Hi Neil, cmari and Duarte

I've been unable to duplicate the problem except by upgrading from an intermediate 5.1.8-prerelease that included the bug. Can you confirm that you are seeing the problem when you upgrade a 5.1.7 wiki?

Best wishes

Jeremy,

Thanks for looking into this.

I can confirm that I am using the upgrader at the address you specified. I started using a prerelease dating from about 21st March and my backups from soon after this have the same problems. My backups from before this using v5.1.7 give an error message when I use the upgrader but seem to upgrade okay if I dismiss the message (I remember that I had this when I upgraded to the prerelease and I had to exclude a particular tiddler from the upgrade to get it to work - can't remember which tiddler, but I could probably find again by trial and error).

Sounds like this might be an object lesson in not upgrading my main wikis to a prerelease. Looks like dragging tiddlers from the affected wikis onto a clean v5.1.8 avoids the problem, and the clean wiki then upgrades okay, so hopefully this will get me back on track.

Cheers,

Neil.

I haven't run into the problem again, so far my upgrades have been clean from 5.1.8 pre releases to 5.1.8 official.
I only mentioned it because I ran into a similar problem with double quotes and one of the previous pre release version but it has been solved for me ever since

Many Thanks to Jeremy & All the Contributors!!

Little thing I found. Two identical tiddlers on TiddlyWiki.com?
There is still a tiddler called: "GettingStarted - Node.js" (8 month old)
Isn't this superseded by a newer tiddler: "Installing TiddlyWiki on Node.js" (24 days old)
Only title seems different and oldert one is untagged.
Salut! Ed.

Hi Jeremy,
I still can't successfully use the upgrader or drag a file from the period after March 21st.
However, files dated before that (including 5.1.7 and earlier prerelease versions) can be upgraded to 5.1.8 successfully.

If I hadn't been so impatient to see all the new features in action, I could have waited - but the export workaround was mentioned at just the right time.

Hi Jeremy,

There's a very little issue at tiddlywiki.com: in 5.1.8 release description: release date still appears as TBA.

Thank you for this release (plugin management is a great addition)!

By the way, any chance to implement a charting widget?

The power of TiddlyWiki! Can get very confusing at first.

[[GettingStarted - Node.js]] is just a "wrapper" around [[Installing TiddlyWiki on Node.js]]. It's purpose is to make the latter appear in [[GettingStarted]] as one of the tabs. The list of tabs is auto-generated by a filter that includes "[prefix[GettingStarted - ]]" operator.

What's a proper use of this "Mark as complete" feature that appears in every post? I tried to mark a certain reply I just answered as complete, but it marked the whole thread...
