Hi
I apologize if this is not the place to post this, but I've been looking around and have not found anywhere to do this.

To frame this... I teach grad students and use the classic TiddlyWiki (I'll update to the new version over academic break one of these days) as a shell to organize course materials for my students... and me if I'm being honest. I've posted on this before, but TiddlyWiki makes organizing handouts, readings, topics, assignment instructions... as well as importing things from the prior class and rearranging them for a new semester... very easy. Udo's YourSearch plugin makes the whole thing searchable, which is a big bonus. My students complain about all sorts of things, but I have had only compliments about my course website for years now.

The problem was... Firefox ended support for the scripting required to save a TiddlyWiki. When I discovered this, I cursed them. I tried the first version of TiddlyDesktop and had some issue with it. I went to the portable version of the Firefox ESR release, but that's been a pain. I may have four TiddlyWiki shells a semester, and so editing and switching between them has been tricky. After a lot of work to figure out how to install more than one version of Firefox, sometimes links still open in the wrong version (or won't open because one version is already open and it causes a conflict) and I can't figure out how to fix it (there's dozens of calls to Firefox in the Windows registry, and even if I figure out which one needs changing, I have to make that change on two other machines running different versions of Windows). Further, every time there is an update to Firefox, something gets borked in my set up. Switching to some other solution is twice as much work for me, so I've stayed with the ESR, though I hate it.

Then I saw and tried the newest version (13 I think) of TiddlyDesktop. This has made organizing and editing TiddlyWikis SO SIMPLE.

I don't know how much work the TiddlyDesktop project has created, on top of the work for the two versions of TiddlyWiki, but I really appreciate it.
My thanks to Jermolene R and everyone else working on this - you have made my job much easier :)

THANKS!
Rich

Richard,

Thanks for Sharing, Jeremy deserves recognition for TiddlyDesktop and it is a great tool for TWC in addition to TW5.

Do you have any specific Questions given your circumstances?

Tony

Ciao Richard

I agree TiddlyDesktop is extremely good. It works on desktops like a normal application--which is a big plus as you don't need to mess about with saving as it does it automatically--as well as backups.

There are a few issues with it that relate, mainly, to the fact it is not a full browser, its runs on the core of Chrome, but lacks some of its features. If you interested I recommend reading through the issues on Github. It has its own group there that is a manageable size.

UP-voting issues that interest you there will encourage further development.

Best wishes

Thanks for all the kind words, much appreciated. I’m conscious that we’re a bit overdue to release a new version of TiddlyDesktop, and hope to do that soon,

Best wishes

Jeremy.

Hi Jeremy!
Yes we are eagerly waiting for new release and fixing some issues among them the full-screen support!

For wider usability I'd guess an important item is "relative paths" for all connected wikis, so that TD can become properly portable (https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyDesktop/issues/153)

Many other issue's are about "more like a browser" to put back features that a core chrome (the engine of TD) lacks. But some of those TW itself can do via plugins--like the "PrintRiver" plugin which substitutes for the missing right-click menu that offers print for the stream. (see: https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyDesktop/issues/133)

Best wishes

Jeremy,

I understand the TiddlyDesktop can also serve wikis on the LAN but I have not found the documentation on how to do so, so if you are revising it please check that aspect. Shall I raise this in Git-Hub?

Regards
TGony

There are some built-in docs which briefly cover things; click “Help” and then “Usage” (see below).

Improvements are welcome, the docs are in GitHub here:

Best wishes
