I’m tentatively reviving TiddlyWiki Hangouts with a new weekly series of pre-recorded conversations with invited guests. The format is an extended screencast with talking heads in the corner, and the intention is to illuminate how people use and personalise TiddlyWiki.

Saq Imtiaz and I made the first recording this morning, which I’ll publish shortly in a separate thread. The purpose of this thread is to ask for nominations of guests you’d like to see featured. They don’t need to be a developer, just somebody who might have something interesting to show and talk about.

Feel free to nominate people here, or to drop me a personal email at jeremy (dot) ruston (at) gmail (got) com. Any other comments or suggestions to improve the hangouts are most welcome.

Best wishes

Jeremy.

That's great news!

I'd love to see

@Jeremys setup! This guy supposedly knows how to use TW so it'd be really interesting to know what he actually does with it :-)
@Jeds setup - Bob galore! Maybe he also integrates it with other stuff?
@Anne-Laure - TW compared to other tools she has/is using
@Springer - TW in a teaching context

I ll start with the usual suspects

* Mohammad - because I think he has a lot of tricks he ain't telling us about
* BurningTreeC - if we need to hear about anybody's UI vision, it is him
* JD - bcoz JD deserves an episode all to himself
* If you could catch Mat and Jed together in an episode - give them a chance to explain their Federated wiki - it is about time.

* Sylvain - He manages the French Community almost alone. It would be nice to know their perspective.

* Finally bring Tobias Beer back! I don't know about you guys, but I miss the quality of content he churns out

Add:

@Danielo and NoteSelf, assuming he still is active with it

<:-)

P.S There's gang of other wonderful people here but I imagine the above mentioned have "special use cases" and it is of course these use cases that I'm curious about.

Yes, time to hear about more interesting workflows than my own! Also I think today, even though I tried not to, it became a bit too much telling and not enough showing things on the screen.

Nominations:
Dave Gifford: It seems like there is a lot of interest around TiddlyBlink / Stroll / similar adaptations. While I have been helping Dave Gifford with the two story support, I still don't really have a clear vision of how this would be used in a real world context and where the true value lies. Would love to see Dave talking us through his workflow with it.

Seconding the nominations of Anne-Laure and Elise Springer as well. Would love to see and hear more about how they are using TiddlyWiki and why.

Regards,
Saq

Hi Jeremy
Great idea! if the hangouts recorded every week then I would absolutely invite most influencers!

By the way one of the challenge of Tiddlywiki is saving mechanism and its future.

So, Rizwan Ibnishak is one of the candidate I like to invite and discuss not only the current situation by also the outlook of next 5 years!

Hello Jeremy and all,

I always did enjoy laying back and watching attentively the
Hangouts...very informal yet very instructional.
Glad to see them back even if tentatively.

Many blessings,
Julio

This is very good news.

Interesting guests has been proposed and I agree.
Please may I ask: Try not to speak too fast. I had the subtitles on and that did help some but not quite enough.

Very good point, I’m keen to make the videos accessible to as wide an audience as possible. YouTube generates subtitles automatically but they are not super-accurate.  As an experiment, I’ve turned on an option labelled “community subtitles” for the latest hangout, I believe it enables contributions to the subtitles:

I actually found the subtitles rather good. Just not for Tiddlywiki 5 (Ricky lie] or tiddlers (Hitlers] were only some of the suggestions.
I just found that we are able to set the playing speed.

Good point and apologies Birthe. I was too much in "hangout" mode in my mind and not enough in "presentation" mode. I'm more used to doing presentations on my feet in front of people!

Hi Saq,

It was highly interesting. I love your two story and have in fact been using it since you shared the one with the drag and drop zone some time ago.
I would also like to see Dave Gifford telling us about Stroll.

Thank you for all the nominations. Everyone mentioned would make a fantastic guest, and I hope they’ll agree to take part — and I’m sure there are many others too.

I’m sure you will all be pleased to learn Anne-Laure has kindly agreed to be our guest on hangout #106 next week. I’ll send invitations to the other nominees shortly and try to figure out a timetable for the next few weeks.

Best wishes

Jeremy.

Even if this ends up being roughly bi-weekly rather than weekly, I think it will be fantastic.

I agree.

I think TWC  needs decent attention. We talk about the longevity of TiddlyWiki but to do so its essential that TWC is central to that.

And, yes, Yakov is central.

The model T still is a beautiful car, but the world has moved on from there: it has become a collector's item and is ripe for the museum.

Similarly, TWC is old hat. There is nothing stopping those who want to use it to do so, but to enforce it on the rest of the community is a bit …… well, not right.

So, I agree with Mat's comment.

16 May 2020, 12:11 by matia...@gmail.com:
Regarding TWC

I don't get why NEW attention should be brought to TWC which is, after all, a system we've advanced from. Sure, it works and it's great, but there has been no development for it in almost a decade. It seems mostly that people who use it do so because they didn't muster up the effort to make the transition. Yes, I know this is not 100% the case because TWC is more performant in some aspects but the same can probably be said of Windows 95 or whatever. We've moved on, for good reasons, and we should not "trick" people into spending time on that old technology. There is recurring confusion for newcomers where they found some plugin or information that strangely "doesn't work".

Let TWC fade out to be a nostalgic memory that is still beautiful but that we shouldn't dwell on.
