I'm delighted to confirm that we will be holding a meetup for TiddlyWiki users on 15th and 16th July 2016. The meeting is in Oxford, UK, but I'm hoping that people from further afield will be able to attend.

More details:

http://tiddlywiki-europe-2016.eventbrite.co.uk

If you're interested in attending please apply for a (free) ticket on Eventbrite so that I can keep track of numbers.

Please feel free to ask any questions here, and of course suggestions are very welcome.

Best wishes

Jeremy.

I am very excited about this. Me and Mat are hoping to have enough set up so we can get a good in-person twederation demo and hopefully get anyone there set up who wants to. I haven't gotten my ticket yet because I need to confirm that I will have someone to take care of my dog the night I am gone but that should be sorted out today.

YESSSS IN DEED - I'm coming too and like the Jedster I'm super excited!!!

The "apparently-kids-must-eat-EVERY-darn-day" matter was just solved, so I'll get tickets shortly.

It will be fantastic to finally meet you guys in person. The only TiddlyWikian I've met previously is Big J himself and we had a really great time.

I'll likely stay a few days before or after the meetup too, probably in London and wouldn't mind additional tiddlyfiddling with anyone who is around. More info shortly.

What is the best way to go to Oxford? I suppose there is no airport, so I have to flight to London and then what?

Hi Danielo

> What is the best way to go to Oxford? I suppose there is no airport, so I have to flight to London and then what?

Oxford is just over 60 miles from Central London, but such good transport links that in practical terms it’s a suburb of London. In particular, there are low cost coaches (big buses) that regularly run into Central London (called “The Oxford Tube”, confusingly) and to each of the airports.

There are four London airports: Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton. Heathrow is the closest to Oxford but also tends to have the most expensive flights. The cheapest flights tend to be to Luton and Stansted. Journey times by coach:

Heathrow-Oxford: 1h30m
Luton-Oxford: 1h46m
Gatwick-Oxford: 2h30m
Stansted-Oxford: 3h10m

The coaches from Heathrow and Gatwick are served by http://www.nationalexpress.com/

The coaches from Luton and Stansted are served by http://airline.oxfordbus.co.uk/

There is also the option of flying to Birmingham, which is a city north of London, with a 2hr coach operated by Oxford Bus.

Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions,

Best wishes

Jeremy

Ah man,

I just booked a trip that weekend to visit some friends of mine. If I had known that a week earlier I might have made it and finally meet the awesome guys from the hangouts :D

Well, I look forward to see the streams on YouTube afterwards.

I'm sorry you won't be able to make it. The date was actually announced a couple of weeks ago in a different thread, but I'm afraid not very prominently!

WHO WANTS TO EXTEND THE STAY AND TIDDLYJOY FOR MORE DAYS?

I hope to stay a few more days, either before or after, and would love to tiddle fiddle along with more of you guys! I enjoy sitting non-stop in front of the laptop at a cafe but wouldn't mind other things as well like cultural stuff, fine food, phys training... but mostly tiddlystuff of course ;-)

Who has plans on staying in Oxford or London for more days, either before or after, and wants to tiddle more?

I intend to go from Wednesday to Wednesday or something similar (+- 1 day). It seems, the prices for flights and cars are good that way.

Excellent! Did you think anything about where to stay - Oxford or central London? I figure it's easier people are in the vincinity of one another. Currently, the only fix plan for me concerning location is Oxford for Fri-Sat-Sun but for any other days (whichever they are) either Oxford or central Ldn, but I'm open for any ideas.

Hi Mat,

Just finished the travel arrangements (except accommodations). .. I'll be in England from .. Mi, 13.07.2016 late night till Mi, 20.07.2016 evening.

"Central London" ?? .. imo way to expensive. ... I'll land in Luton Airport and then drive direction to Oxford. On the way I'll see, what's possible. I tend to go through smaller towns or villages, and have a look for "bed and breakfast", motels, hotels .. . This is the most fun, and I can see a bit from the country and the local pubs :). The first night will be a bit complicated, but we'll see.

At the moment I'm checking the internet for some site seeing locations. ... @Jeremy and others any ideas :)

That’s an impressively relaxed approach! Oxford gets packed with tourists and other visitors in the summer, so I’d recommend booking in advance for the nights over the meetup itself.

At the moment I'm checking the internet for some site seeing locations. ... @Jeremy and others any ideas :)

When you land at Luton you’ll be not far from the National Museum of Computing. I’ve not been myself but I gather from others that it’s quite interesting:

I am curious as to what the meetup will consist of. Having done various Hackathon's in the past (most notably the London Dropbox Hackathon) I am wondering if it would be anything like that. Or will it more more of a discussion about the possibilities of TW?

Unfortunately I can only attend on the Saturday. But I would like to know if there is anything I can prepare before hand.

Regards,

Dragon.

I’ve got an open mind; I was thinking of an “unconference” structure where the first thing we do is allow anyone to propose sessions, and then have a loose voting system for deciding which sessions to hold. The process of proposing and choosing can start now, of course, here on the mailing list.

My other thought is to live-stream all of the sessions via Google Hangouts, and to encourage participation remotely.

I’m certainly interested in the idea of some hacking sessions, but I’d want to make sure that it was inclusive for everyone who’s there, and of course not everyone is a developer.

Generally, there are people coming from much further afield than me, so I’d want to make sure that they get what they want from the sessions. Overall, the thing I’m really looking forward to is meeting TiddlyWikiers face-to-face, and the chance to get to know people better.

I believe I speak also for Jed when I say TWederation ("communication between TWs") is a main matter we hope to discuss and work on. There are a zillion things I wish to delve into but I cannot see anything that compares in importance. Presumably, the main point with the conference is jolly good fun so I'm of course happy to part-take in any other discussions too (even if they pale in comparison next to TWederation... don't worry, I'm joking ;-) ;-) ;-)

I'm hoping the meetup place has really good wifi connections. (Better try it out beforehand?)

Non-developer, that's me; I promise to constantly fill the coffee cup for anyone who works on TWederation. I can also answer your phone to inform them you're very, very busy and will be back in a month.

Joking aside; I'm super thrilled about this. Really looking forward to meeting everyone - developers, non-developers, newbies, oldies!

I am still not clear on what you mean by email/tweet or post tiddlers. Do you mean compose in tiddlywiki and then send to some other service? You can already tweet from tiddlywiki so I am not sure what you want with that or what sort of interface you expect for email.

I've created a public Trello board for recording and voting on agenda items. I've invited everyone who's applied for a ticket to the meet-up; you'll be able to add new items and edit the existing ones. Everybody else will be able to see the board, and to vote and comment on items.

Jeremy - or anyone else who might know;

I'm hoping to stay within walking distance from the event place. Do you happen to know any accommodations in the vicinity? The ideal would be a B&B but some boring hotel is also fine.

Thanx!

I don't have anywhere specific to recommend, I'm afraid. I'd suggest some judicious Googling of "b&b oxford", there are plenty of global sites like booking.com that cover Oxford, and quite a few specialist Oxford sites like www.oxfordbedbreakfast.co.uk. I do know that thanks to the local geography a lot of B&Bs are outside the city centre, so you'd have to rely on buses to get into town (not a problem, the bus services are pretty good).

Good luck, and do share any good candidates that you find,

Best wishes

Jeremy

Happy to report I'm now officially ready to rock'n roll between;

July 14 (Thursday evening)
...until July 19 (Tuesday).

After tip from fellow Birthe, I used Airbnb and set the address to the meeting location (Oxford Centre for Innovation - New Road, Oxford, OX1 1BY) and went with the closest room I found which is just a few hundred meters away from it. There are several more rooms within walking distance.

Hi Mario

Any info about how many attendees will be there?

It looks like there will be 9 people plus me, making 10.

Which technical equipment is available? ... beamer? resolution?

There is a projector at the venue, but I'm not sure of the resolution; I shall try to find out.

Are we able to record some sessions? ... live stream them?

I am hoping to use Google Hangouts to broadcast and record some or all of the sessions.

Looking forward to finally meeting you, by the way!

Best wishes

Jeremy

I'm following from time to time but I guess I don't show up on your board since I'm not logged in with google groups.

How will this fetching process work for ordinary wikis? Or is it just for developers?

At the moment, can't seem to pull blogs any more from twederation. Posts and short messages are awol at http://twederation.tiddlyspot.com/ (in the tabs).

Suggestion: Have someone not coding pan a camera around the room from time to time.

Your voice is excellent. REALLY. You could do voiceovers for movies.

Unfortunately the sound overall is poor. As a filmmaker I can tell you you need a professional mike designed to attenuate itself to focal sound. Part of the problem looks like the room is too big for standard computer mikes to be able to attenuate speech from ambience. The best bet, lacking full technical support, may be to use any simple extension mike and get people to speak into it fairly closely.

As an incentive for viewers to follow along carefully, it was decided to at (only) one point during the recordings disclose the un-official URL where we stored all the notes, the new widgets and the prototype for TW2000. I tried to protest against this but then Xavier and Jed threatened to "use the stamping tool on me" if I ever disclosed the URL, so I'm sorry.

Other than that I think it is only http://tiddlywiki.com/tiddlywiki-eu-meetup-2016/ that sums things up. The biggest news is that TWederation is now really in place and we're polishing on some UI matters and Jeremy is working on a thing so that one can instantaneously create tiddlyspots or possibly neocity TWs.
