David,

it says:

Tiddler toolbar in view mode

I have not been able to find and activate that icon. Is that because this is still in the project phase?
If not, please direct me. I am usinf TiddlyBlink.

Peter,
Look at the ViewToolbar on the upper right corner of the tiddler. You will see the plus icon and the clock icon.
All ready to use.
You could also click on the links in the tiddler you linked to and they will open and you will see how they look.

Birthe, you are right, I had seen those, I use them all the time, but ………… this is what is missing:

"These create new tiddlers whose text field contains a link to the tiddler used to create them. So the 'child' tiddler contains a link to the 'parent' tiddler."

That is what is says on that TB tiddler.

Peter,
I am not sure what you are missing? I just tested your link and creating a new tiddler from those icons do insert a link. Do you want something else?

Birthe, it seems we talking at cross-purposes, though I am not sure how.

If I open a n existing tiddler, then click on the + icon (i.e. the one that is in the right hand side pane), a new, completely empty tiddler without any links is created.

Can you see what am I missing?

Hi Peter

You are clicking on the buttons in the sidebar. Birthe is correctly instructing you to use the buttons at the top of the tiddler.

Peter,
The one in the pagecontrols (right hand side pane) is the normal create new tiddler. The one you should use to create a new tiddler with the link inserted is in the tiddler controls.

David, you are therefore referring to the Page Toolbar, whereas Birthe referred to the View Toolbar.
There is no +icon at the top of my tiddlers. And when I try to enable it in the Page Toolbar settings, the only one I see is "new here", which has as description "create a new tiddler tagged with this one". I tried and that is what it does do: it adds that tag.

But that is not what your description says: "These create new tiddlers whose text field contains a link to the tiddler used to create them. So the 'child' tiddler contains a link to the 'parent' tiddler."

A screenshot of what your tiddlers look like might help us understand. Here's the buttons, circled, that
you should be able to use to make tiddlers with links (there should be an image here):

Hey Birthe, many thanks.
Please forgive this question: I have downloaded the .json file. What should I do with it? I presume I should import it into my TW file, and will that make the corrections you intend?

Peter,
I am rather confused concerning what you have and what you have not. Both from your description and the screenshots. Downloading the DoublebBlink wiki I had everything I needed. I just changed the buttons to be able to see them when selecting from control panel Appearance Toolbars, and changed the tooltips a bit too.

The .json file can be dragged and dropped into your Tiddlywiki. The import tiddler will open and you can see, what you will be importing.

Birthe, I never said I am using  DoiubleBlink, I said I am using TiddlyBlink, and I stated that in my original question in this thread. I asked if the buttons were part of TB or part of the DB project because that was not clear to me.

So, to repeat:
  • I am using TiddlyBlink
  • I would like to have the button we have been talking about. Is it OK to drag and drop the .json file onto my TiddlyBlink file?

Hi Peter

Sorry for all the confusion. But you have still left me confused, too. Here is the link to the official TiddlyBlink site. You will see it also has the icons we have been describing to you. https://giffmex.org/gifts/tiddlyblink.html

From your comments I think you may have made some changes to your toolbar or overwritten the $:/tags/viewtoolbar tiddler.

OK David, I accept that the fault is entirely on my side, although I have no idea whatsoever how I did it.

What would be the best way to resolve this: export my tiddlers (what format?), download a fresh version of TB, then import the tiddlers, OR

use Birthe's .json file ?

Peter,
Not knowing you wiki, we cannot be sure. I think you might have some of your buttons from some plugins?
You could backup your wiki and try to import my .json file. Then you should be able to select the buttons from controlpanel -Appearance-Toolbars.

If you want to export you tiddlers go to $:/AdvancedSearch filter tab.
Search for the tiddlers you want and click on the Export tiddlers button. Chose export as .json.

Birthe, I imported your .json file, and indeed the 2 new buttons are in the Control Panel. Initially I thought it was the same in that the explanatory text with the new + button still mentions "tagged". But a hunch told me to try it out, and clicking the button does create a new tiddler with the link in the text box.

I am still confused, a bit worried even, how I was able to make those 2 buttons disappear from the Control Panel. At this stage in my TW experience (all of 11 days) I would not dare to touch the CP. I did install a number of plug-ins, although I would be surprised if any of those did that.

Anyway, I want to thank you, once again, for your help for and patience with this irritating newbie - I assure you I try my best not to bug people ;-)

Since I don't know what you did to change the toolbar, I am not sure what you should do. From the online tiddlyblink you can just drag the tb tag pill into your file and save and refresh. But that may mess up changes you made.

Peter,

Peace! We do understand. I often find it difficult to put a question. Difficult when we need it the most.
The original buttons did not list in control panel, that is the reason for me editing them.

You will sometimes experienced not default TW buttons to not show icons or description in Control panel.
That depends on the buttons having caption and description fields, Try to open one of the core buttons and see how that is done.

Folks,

Some of the confusion here is by variances from tiddlywiki standards. + usually means NEW tiddler and The New Here button is used for new tiddler in context, specifically tagged with the current tiddler.

In this case there is a + button unusually on the view Toolbar to add a tiddler in the current of two stories?. Perhaps a new Icon should be deployed! to avoid this confusion in future.

Regards
Tony
