Please look at the screenshot below. This is what I see in my mail client for a thread that Alex started by making a test post, and then editing the test post.

It’s extremely frustrating to have to keep pointing out that if you make edits to a post then people who read the group on email will not see those changes. So it is recommended to use the edit function to correct or update posts, but to also make a new post to draw attention to those changes.

Perhaps I should turn off the editing capability to stop this happening.

Best wishes

Jeremy.

Hi All,

Apologies, I don't quite know how this happened. It may be something to do with my machine, the battery not working.

@Jeremy, are you saying that if I edit a draft in my gmail then it appears on the group?

Ciao Jeremy

Totally agree. Even though I'm an avid reviser elsewhere I know its a NO, NO here because its goes out ONCE only to those on email.

I'd rather you did not switch off editing. Mainly for small reasons. For instance, when I address a post to "Tobias", when I meant "Thomas". I'd rather not have such silly errors, we all make from time to time, forever in the archive.

Best wishes
Josiah

Hi Alex

No, definitely not.

It looks as though you created a post with no subject and the text "test" (that is what got sent out via email), and then edited the post to be the text that Jed replied to.

Best wishes

Jeremy.

Another very needed and basic functionality that causes troubles with this poor platform.

Sometimes I feel that this group is stuck at the nineties. Even IRC seems better .

That said, please do not remove the edit functionality or some threads can become really ugly.

As it happens there is more than one Alex in TiddlyLand -- it not me!

Hi Jeremy,

While I share your concerns over your particular workflow – which I don't practice myself –
I very much hope you do not remove the editing capabilities.

Instead, I would suggest some sticky "Group Rules" post which, indeed,
is being edited as we nail down a manifesto for how we hope people use the google groups.

In there, instead of demanding what not to do, we should list
best practices and highlight the problems that come with not respecting them.

Best wishes,

Tobias.
