Good evening everyone,

The new URL is: https://twcloud.github.io/dropbox/

I've updated TiddlyWiki in the Sky using a new mechanism that allows me to support both Classic and Five. The new mechanism generates a blob URL containing the selected file and the code needed for saving.

Every link now contains an actual "permalink" containing both the app access type and the file path, so you can now bookmark specific files in your account for easy access. The permalink includes the account id to make sure you don't accidentally open a file in the wrong account.

Right-click on the link to copy it or open it in a new tab. You can also drag it into your bookmarks. If you open it in a new tab, the current access token won't carry over, so you will still need to be logged into the same Dropbox account, just as if you were using the link from somewhere else.

Sorry, the icons are simply gone for now, but it should be pretty obvious what's a folder and what's an HTML file. Also, it is kind of beta, but I was testing it and worked out a few more bugs this evening, so I'm pretty confident now that everything is working.

The old URL still works and uses the old loading mechanism, so if you run into any trouble, that one will still be there. https://twcloud.github.io/tw5-dropbox/

As always, let me know if you run into any trouble.

The new URL is at the top of this email to avoid confusion :)

Enjoy,
Arlen

Please announce it on Twitter too! This is worth everyone knowing about.

There has also been discussion in the "Quine" TW group (for iOS) on Dropbox you might want look at. I'm not clear if this solution works for them. It probably does. And TiddlyWikiClassic definitely need to know.

Josiah, x

(Footnote: Arlen this is an example where reading FORUMS is superior to email. Its much easier in web forums to understand the bigger picture IMO :-)

@Robert, I think I know what caused that and it should be fixed now.

@Tony, what browser and OS are you using?

Thanks, Arlen

Thanks for following up! I can now load my TWC, but upon saving in Safari/iOS I get the popup "You need to save this TiddlyWiki to a file before you can save changes." EDIT: Ditto Chrome on Windows.

Hmm, that sounds like something coming directly from TW Classic itself. Unfortunately, the TWC file I have on hand does not give this error. I don't really understand TiddlyWiki Classic very well, so if anyone can help me out here, that would be great.

It's probably relevant to note that my primary TWC is an mGSD based TW core 2.6.5. I seem to recall that when I first started using it I tried updating the core but ran into run-time errors....

For fun I tried a different one that I use with a different project. It's a less-customized TWC based on core 2.8.1. With this one, when I try to save it wants to save it to my local filesystem, not back to DB.

HTH!

EDIT: an empty mGSD downloaded from http://mgsd.tiddlyspot.com/#Download and installed in my DB folder displays the same behavior as my primary.

Is it possible that it is saving a backup to the local filesystem? Does the yellow saving changes banner come up with your Dropbox profile pic?

I get the tw-native save alert and the browser/os save dialog box, but no save banner as I used to with Jeremy's TWITS before DB turned off V1 APIs.

That is exactly what I get too. Then the download dialog opens and offers to save a long number.

Ok, this also seems to be a bit of a dilemma. I don't work with classic so I'm not sure what the problem is, but if anyone wants to investigate this further, the relevant code is here.

I'm sorry I'm not more help,
Arlen
