Hi,

I am hoping to move my wiki over to Tiddywiki Desktop because it affords me an advantage over Firefox.

One feature I require, but have been unable to find in Tiddlywiki desktop is a print option.

Sometimes I need to print out some instructions from my wiki because network / PC access is non existent down in the bunker.

My usage when using TiddlyWiki in Firefox in this situation is as follows:

Search for and open the tiddler I wish to print, press the "Close Other Tiddlers" button, then print using the Firefox file menu.

Is it possible to re-create the above in Tiddlywiki desktop?

Hi, Andy —

My workaround in TiddlyWiki5 has been to export the individual tiddler I want to print to the desktop as "static HTML," then open that file in the browser and print from there.  (That may seem like an extra step, but remember you don't have to close any other tiddlers you were working on.)

In TiddlyWiki Classic, I've just been firing up the browser whenever I need to print a tiddler.

Hi Scott,

I like your idea of exporting then opening in FF. That will work for me, great tip.

I hope that a print option could be added in the future though.

Jeremy has some neat ambitions for TiddlyDesktop down the road — essentially (if I understand correctly) turning it into a file server for TiddlyWikis, so that you could open your files THROUGH it in ANY browser and take advantage of all the browser's native abilities.  (Personally, I'm driving myself batty trying to bring up the CTRL+F dialogue to search through long tiddlers.  ;)  )

That may be a ways down the line, though.

Hi

I have a quick workaround in the form of an action widget. I haven't packaged this into a plugin -- you'll have to download and copy over the three attached tiddlers to your wiki.

The widget accepts a single $filter= attribute: this attribute specifies a filter to select the tiddlers to print. The button will need customising to your needs.

Hi Andy

I think this filter expression might work for you (in $:/_buttons/print):

<$button tooltip="Print" class="tc-btn-invisible">
<$x-print $filter="[search{$:/temp/search}] -[[$:/temp/search]]"/>
{{$:/_image/print.svg}}
</$button>

Enter your search term in the search box -- then hit the 'Print' button.

Thank you Matabele,

I am not sure exactly how to use that, but I will investigate, try to implement and email back if I am unable to get it going.

I appreciate it.

Andy
