Hi,

Firstly, I've been a long time tiddlywiki user - I'm a fan - thanks!

I've run into a snag I've never had before and I'm hoping you good people can help - I can't make a new tiddler ie:
  1. I however the mouse over the "+" button on the right...
  2. ...and it won't highlight ie: it's inactive.
I've tried...
  1. Upgrading from 5.1.14 to 5.1.17 - same problem.
  2. Loading up a totally new Tiddlyewiki in the computer/browser I'm currently using - the "+" button is active and I can make new tiddlers with that.
Weird.

The only "non-standard" thing I do is save and retrieve it from Google Drive.
Otherwise I have tiddlers: 158 tiddlers and 35 tags on board all weighing in at 3Mb.

Any thoughts? Is there some sort of "readonly" setting I've accidentally triggered?

Cheers.
Kev.

Kev,

To provide more information have a look around and see of other buttons are working correctly, can you clone a tiddler, can you save the wiki and see your last edit saved?

Try placing the new tiddler button in another tiddler

{{||$:/core/ui/Buttons/new-tiddler}}

Do you just access the files on your computer in a folder that is synced with Google Drive or do you use another solution?

Regards
Tony

Thanks for the prompt reply!

The "Control Panel" and "Save Changes" buttons work properly (the latter actually saving my edits).

That works, thanks! ie: a button which actually adds a new tiddler appears in an existing one and I've saved and loaded up this latest version.
So, why on earth doesn't the normal button work? I haven't gone under the hood and changed any code.

I pull the file off Google drive to edit on a local computer (where ever I happen to be) then upload when I'm done. It's my way of having it available anywhere, including on my phone (I only view on my phone, editing is too fiddly).

Thanks for solution though it would be better to have the original button working!

Kev,

That was not intended as a solution, I wanted you to provide more information so we could learn where to go from there.

In Control Panel > Appearance > Toolbars > Page ToolBar
you should see the new tiddler button and it would be checked, to show on the page (not behind the more button)
  • Check to see if there is only one button with the + Icon and hide one and show the other if so (Should not be occurring)
Open the tiddler

$:/core/ui/Buttons/new-tiddler

Then delete it, this is a shadow tiddler, so if it was mistakenly edited the delete will return it to its initial state.

Let us no if it is still a problem.

Regrads
Tony

Thanks again...

There is only one "+ new tiddler" and it is checked.

Then delete it, this is a shadow tiddler, so if it was mistakenly edited the delete will return it to its initial state.

By the above, do you mean....
  1. Cut and paste "$:/core/ui/Buttons/new-tiddler" into an existing tiddler.
  2. Click on the resultant link rendered in the preview pane.
  3. Edit > Delete that tiddler that pop's up? (despite the system warnings)
Thanks.

He means to actually delete the tiddler (your 3 step process). This is not as dangerous as it sounds. You can't actually delete a shadow tiddler this way. Deleting it just resets it to it's original status. (to actually remove the button you would have to delete the plugin that provides it, which would be dangerous). However, you can tell if a tiddler is a shadow tiddler without opening it -- if its link is a deep blue bold then it's a shadow tiddler. If it's the usual pale blue, then it's not (which means it may have been altered).

Are you using any additional plugins in your TW?
