Hi Danielo,

After downloading to my PC. Right after changing the MyNotebook to any other name, saving the file, and reloading it; I get the message in a window as shown below. Tried several times on different browsers and on TiddlyDesktop. All the same. Any clues?

Saludos,

Alfonso

That is likely NOT the file you downloaded. It looks like the file is trying to reach a database that is not there?? Not sure.

Hola Alfonso,

How have you downloaded NoteSelf?
Looks like you have not downloaded it the proper way. Please use the download link at https://noteself.github.io

In any case, are you sure you need to download it? You can use it without any download just going to https://noteself.github.io/online and use it. The tiddlers are going to be saved to the same place: your browser's database.

Regards.

Hola Danielo,

I downloaded NoteSelf from the only link not once but trice. Tried several times making copies. Same result. I think I figured out what the issue may be: I was using portable browsers running out of a USB with no cache allowed.

Saludos,

Alfonso

Hola de nuevo, it's me again.

The issue persists. I even tried with Tiddly Desktop v008 and get the same error, so the browser is not the culprit. I only get this issue with Noteself (all my other TiddlyWiki documents work fine.

The online version works fine though. However, the issue I have with the online version is that, as you clearly mention in the Note Self website, it serves a selfish interest–it is for my eyes only–and the document cannot be shared with others. That is why I wanted the offline version to work for me.

Saludos,

Alfonso

Hola Alfonso,

I'm sorry that you are having so many problems. To be honest, I don't use the offline version at all, so maybe I have introduced a bug on the recent realeases that I didn't noticed. I will check it more closely.

However, as you said, it is not possible to share the file with others, so if being able to email the file to coworkers is a must have, then NoteSelf is not the solution for you. However, if the target is just to allow other people to access your content and edit it, then you can use a remote database to sync all the instances. Just follow the instructions on this video to configure a remote database:

You can then create other users with access to the same database you use and they should be able to access your content through the online version too.
Let me know if that suits your needs better.

Regards

Gracias, Danielo,

Creating users and allowing them one by one is one is not what I had in mind. I was thinking more of an Internet link/url where anybody could just point their browser without logging in. Good stuff though.

Cheers,

Alfonso

There should be some way to do what you want. However, it requires development, and it is not feasible at this moment.
I never needed such feature, that's why it does not exists, but don't hesitate to open an issue requesting it!! https://github.com/NoteSelf/NoteSelf.github.io

Dear sini-Kit,

Do you  mean the error at the very top of this thread? How have you downloaded the wiki? Do you really need to download it? The online version works without internet connection.

Hey Danielo,

I've been trying it out but I have some questions for you.

Why does the local file save all these JSON files? I thought it was supposed to use the Browser's internal storage?

Also, I thought tiddlers were supposed to be attached to notebooks somehow, but even when I change the name in the notebook field, it doesn't seem to work that way.

Am I missing something or does it not work the same locally?

I've been kicking it's tires using Google Chrome.

Thanks Danielo,

After reading this thread more and trying a few things out, I finally got this to work for me. Using it only at https://noteself.github.io/online/ is the best solution as it remembers you because your state is saved within your own browser.

Clicking the save button on the online website saves the Tiddlers to your system as a JSON file that you can import into a new or other local TiddlyWiki. You will not get a local HTML file to use from there though.

If you want to use it locally, then you have to click the save button at https://noteself.github.io/.  Think of the "Save Config" button more as a "Refresh Notebooks" button as it allows you to see Tiddlers from the other Notebooks. Save Config isn't the best choice for a description of what it does and I would recommend changing it to make that button more descriptive.

This looks really awesome, now that I've figured out how to use it.  I would definitely change the "Save Config" button's label to "Refresh Notebooks" though and perhaps change up the description of how to use it as the App goes against the normal user experiences expected by a TiddlyWiki user.

Many may initially think the App is broken and not continue to use it when they really simply don't understand that the user experience is going to be substantially different compared to what they are used to. I know that I was initially confused and thought that the App was broken. I'm going to have to take a good look at the code as I think that I can make use of some of these ideas in other ongoing projects that I have.

This project and Mat's new SearchWords are both absolutely BRILLIANT!

Thanks again Danielo,

Mat
