"Tiddlers" are real fish.

The experience of feet in water near that devastating weir.

Those tiny fish still happily dancing six inches from vortex death.

I was born in England exactly where the Grand Union Canal meets the River Soar in Mountsorrel, Leicestershire, UK. Our house had water on 3 sides. My childhood was mother, father, geese, ducklings, endless water and TIDDLERS. I loved tiddlers. I was always half in water.

Tiddlers nibbled your feet, but never bit. They were my friends.

Occasionally, biography is relevant. Mine kinda is.

My tiddling canal was the Trent and Mersey canal. It joins up Stoke on Trent with Liverpool, carrying ceramics in a gentler than horse and cart way.

Completely off topic (other than a shared interest in canals), but I think this photo shows our boat on the other side of that same bridge?

Ciao cmari

Yeah that's in the same place, just across the bridge, as you knew. Your narrowboat is in the lock. The pub is the Waterside Inn. When I was a kid there was a boatyard too where I spent a lot of time messing about playing with and making boats.

Its no more off-topic than the thread :). Documenting a canal journey using TW could be a really nice thing to do :-). Foxton Locks are something I often think I should go back and document. I now live in Italy which also has a strong canal culture in some places. Though never for long range transport like in the UK.
