Thanks to the assistance of Andreas Hahn , I have successfully - and dramatically - reduced the size of self-contained TW files that I use when internet is problematic.

By using the advice of Andreas - after he assured my the USE and DISPLAY of webp images was a relatively simple process.
Refer here for his adaptation for webp delivery in TW : https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/tiddlywiki/webp/tiddlywiki/sEgj9GFbMpM/WVFI-bwSAQAJ

FYI - WebP is an image file format from Google that provides lossy compression (like JPEG) as well as transparency (like PNG) but can provide better compression than either JPEG or PNG.

In 3 recent LARGE self-contained ( images embedded within the single html file - rather than linked to local folders - or online ) Tiddlywikis
I have reduced file size from over 70MB to under 18MB
and the screen refreshes have reduced in time dramatically.
I assume most of you know this already - but it may be of help to the less technically minded like me .....

Thanks John, I’d missed the original thread. I’ve added support for image/webp for 5.1.18:

The update also includes support for Apple’s new HEIC/HEIF format.

By the way, you should take care you remove your modified copy of boot.js when you upgrade to 5.1.18, otherwise things will go badly wrong.

Best wishes

Jeremy

Thanks Jeremy
Sounds like that just saved me from something near-catastrophic when I would update to 5.1.18.

I look forward to that release

cheers, John
