When I click on nv.exe the tiddlyDesktop does not launch and is iconified on my windows taskBar as usually.
Clicking on the icon in my task bar does not do anything. Can't launch the tool ...

It may be worth trying to delete TiddlyDesktop’s configuration data and then restarting the application.

First, you’ll need to quit the application. That may be difficult if it has crashed; at worst, you can reboot your PC to make sure that TiddlyDesktop is not running.

Then, the configuration folder will be found at a path like:

C:\Users\Jeremy\AppData\Local\TiddlyWiki

Delete the entire folder “TiddlyWiki”, and all of its content.

Finally, re-run nw.exe.

Please let me know how you get on,

Best wishes

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks a lot for your help
Yes, what you proposed unlocked my problem.
I'm able now to access again to my tiddly using the tiddlyDesktop.
Tell me what I can do to help you troubleshooting this problem. This is the first time I face it..

Regards

Vpl

Hi Vpl

Tell me what I can do to help you troubleshooting this problem. This is the first time I face it..

It’s probably too late, but the most useful thing would be if you could zip up a copy of the configuration folder that you deleted!

My hypothesis is that TiddlyDesktop did at some point start correctly, but that something happened to corrupt the configuration data - conceivably, the app crashing might leave the config folder in an unstable state.

Best wishes

Jeremy.

Hi Jeremy,

I had exactly the same issue.
I saved from garbage the TiddlyWiki folder of Appdata ;)

What file(s) do you need ?

PS : and for me solve the problem too

Hi Sylvain

What file(s) do you need ?

Great, I’d suggest sending the whole thing over to me via email. The only personal data that could be in there is the paths to the wikis that you had registered.

Many thanks,

Jeremy

Sylvain sent me the config folder privately. The TiddlyWiki data that I can see looks absolutely fine; there’s a config tiddler for a TW HTML file on the C: drive, and the associated thumbnail. Nothing looks out of order.

Therefore a reasonable hypothesis is that the non-TiddlyWiki data that nw.js stores in the config folder may have become corrupted.

If you don’t mind a little bit more fiddling about, you may be able to run an experiment to test the hypothesis. You’ve got a working set of config data, and a broken set. The idea would be to try out the working nw.js config data with the broken TiddlyWiki config data, and then the broken nw.js config data with the working TiddlyWiki config data.

Looking inside the TiddlyDesktop config folder, you’ll find a list of files and folders  like this:

Cache
Downloads
GPUCache
Local Storage
Web Data
Web Data-journal
cookies
cookies-journal
user-config-tiddlywiki

The final entry "user-config-tiddlywiki” contains all the configuration data managed by TiddlyDesktop; all the other files and folders are nw.js housekeeping.

So, here’s the experiment, assuming you’ve got a working TiddlyDesktop v0.0.6 now:

* Quit TiddlyDesktop
* Backup your working, current TiddlyDesktop config folder
* Replace the "user-config-tiddlywiki” folder with the the one from the ZIP you sent me
* Restart TiddlyDesktop, and check whether it’s working

Then, the second part:

* Quit TiddlyDesktop
* Replace your entire working, current TiddlyDesktop config folder with the one from the ZIP you send me
* Replace the "user-config-tiddlywiki” folder with the the one from the backup you took in step 1
* Restart TiddlyDesktop, and check whether it’s working

Best wishes

Jeremy

A quick update: I investigated further, including another sample corrupt config folder sent to me by another user privately, and have resolved the issue:

I’ll release v0.0.7 over the next few days with the fix. In the meantime, if you run into the issue, just delete your configuration folder as described in this thread.

Best wishes

Jeremy.
