Folks,
I recently stumbled upon tiddlywikis Wikipedia entry. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TiddlyWiki

Which is somewhat aging and could do with more content. I especially think it worth promoting it beyond the single file version/note book.

I am a WikiPedia Editor so I can apply updates, so if you wish provide content to be added here and I can apply it for you.

Regards
Tony

I would very much like to see TW actively promoted more.

IF there can be a shared approach among a few people keen on outreach with a strategy in mind I would be happy to put in several hours a week.

I see things like that Wikipedia entry as a signal "no one really knows" what TW is beyond the enthusiasts. Well, that is an exaggeration. But an active "marketing" plan for TW has never, as far as I can see, been thought through or tried.

I should be able to add an hour+ of this to my list of weekly chores.  An established Strategy would help me make that time as productive as possible.

I would think the best approach is to mention TW where related things are discussed. For example, in youtube comments where, say, evernote is discussed or note-taking or front-end dev etc or in discussion forums. Also, occasional searches for official reviews of software or comparisons like "best note taking software", "free blogging tools". Something I've thought of before is Instructables. I don't know what their policy is about purely software based creations but if you have anything involving TW and hardware do go for it (two examples currently).

err: that's only one TW project on Instructables.

Josiah Hans and Mat,

Let us do this but start small.

Please review the Wikipedia entry.

And post some content here.

Initially a couple of thoughts & queries...

-- I think its useful to read the Wikipedia entry to get a sense of "What is it missing?"

-- And also ask oneself "Is what TW is especially good at made central enough?" For example, the radical extent of "Transclusion" in TW. There are many other special things about TW.

As far as both communicating what it is, and developing a basic USP, having a simple list of such things to promote could be useful.

Looking at the entry for TW at: Comparison of Wiki Software

Noting that TW is the only wiki system listed with HTML as its "Backend". That is of great value. Because of longevity. Because of simplicity. Because of cross-browser and cross-platform universality. Because its different.

But its also not the whole story obviously as node approach with storage in .tids ...

IMO, communicating how get to TW running is a problem--meaning should you burden a person reading a WikiPedia entry with all the possibilities (node, apache, android, Firefox etc, etc?) Or should you focus on its functionality once up and running and leave how to get it running to one side?

Let's ask ourselves what the objective is. IMO, it is "marketing" which obviously doesn't really align with Wikipedias objectives. However, we can "reinterpret" it so that it is purely informative but targeting a readership who is looking for information on wheather TW is worth checking out as an alternative for their needs. That way, it could be used as a reference that we point to when we bring up TW in those other cases.

I agree that a Wikipedia entry isn't yet "marketing" but it can be informatively foundational to it.  "Needs focus" (I.e. what you want it for) sounds right. And I'd suggest as much linking as possible from "Applications" to actual example wiki of a big range of types of use so a potential user can get the measure of what they could concretely do with it.

Starting small & considering the need for a Strategy, I also took the liberty of creating a comment on WikiPedi.TiddlyWiki.Talk ...

That is how I discovered TW, when searching for a wiki software using their software comparison charts, so keeping TW's features up to date there would be very beneficial.

Also a thing to mention in the wiki article would be TW's support of accessibility-- I believe you looked at TW working with screen readers in the past?
