Hi,

I'm returning to TiddlyWIki due to Stroll (nice work!) and trying to figure out how to best sync my changes between my laptop and phone.  I use Syncthing for other things and it works great to sync changes between my phone's Stroll directory and the Stroll directory on my laptop (when changes are made).  The syncing isn't a problem but I can't find a browser on Android that I can save changes to the same html file that I opened (like a text editor does with "save").  It seems like every browser wants to save it to the Downloads directory and if the filename already exists it auto-renames it to a unique name (which isn't what I want).  I can tell the browsers to "ask me" but that really only has the option to save to Downloads or SDCard (not the directory that I choose).  Has anyone had any luck saving to the same file you are editing on Android?

I tried the GitHub sync but I couldn't figure out how to keep my credentials in the browser when I close/open the browser or reboot.  I'm trying to move away from cloud services as much as possible so I don't really want to use GDrive or GitHub, etc.

If you use PMario's file-backups you can save to the same file  on Firefox (not sure if it does Chrome). But that directory has to be in or below the browser's download directory. You can also run tiddlyserver in Termux, which let's you save back to more places. For me it's a bit unreliable thanks to Android's memory management, but others say it works great for them, so it's probably hardware dependent.

There's also dedicated Android apps (Tiddloid and Quinoid).

FireFox works for me. There is no Chrome version atm. ... BUT it needs to be Downloads dir or a subdirectory also on Android.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions.  I tried PMario's file-backups but I couldn't get it to work the way I wanted -- I wanted to save to the original file, not make backups.  I tried to install TiddloidLite but my phone admin has locked installing apps from apk files.

I ended up finding Auto Transfer on the Play store which I setup to move Downloads/Stroll.html to MyDir/Stroll.html automatically.  Then the next time I save the file from the browser there is no filename in the way and the file doesn't get renamed.  I have Syncthing running in MyDir and it syncs the file to my other devices.  The only minor issue is I have to remember to reload the file in the browser before editing.  This works well enough for me.

Thanks for pointing that out. I am using Syncthing as well and I faced this exact difficulty. TiddloidLite seems to be a good solution. I wish it was on FDroid though.

I am really grateful for Tiddlywiki and its community.

Best,

Mostafa
