Hey guys,

I just wanted to start a new tiddly project with tiddlymap and was wondering if it is possible to connect tiddlymap with a city or travel map.

I think tiddlymap would suit perfect for this projekt. I could add a node for every point of interest and fill the regarding tiddler with information.

For my purposes it should have following features:

- offline usage with short loading times
- map zoom in/out

Any ideas how to embed a map (e.g. openstreetmap)?

Hi Tueb,

depends on what you mean by connect, there is an example of an epic "street map" at http://tiddlymap.org. Just scroll down the examples and look for "Think epic. Map your quests!" . But you cannot connect tiddlymap to e.g. google maps.

Hey,

then it's only possible to use "small" .png maps. I was thinking about a streetmap of a region which size is something like 50 km². I don't think .png would fit for this kind of project.

I went to an open street nap conference in Manchester a few years ago. One speaker (William Cartwright) talked about naive Australians and how the process of mapping turnabout to be  culturally specific. In other words there are many ways of mapping things and the method where there is a linear scale linked to measurements on the earth is just one.

I would suggest abandoning traditional methods mapping the  city, use tw and tiddlynap to map nodes on narratives onto key points in the city.

The city and hypertext, psychogeography, affective mapping, William Cartwright, Guy deBord: these are search words which could help inform a design of a tw based map of a city...

I just wouldn't get over concerned with layering nodes over a conventional city map and the technicalities of visualising an interface... Not sure if this helps at all...

I am interested in wikis and hypertext and place, I would be very interested in sharing ides with those with similar interests

Hi Alex,

I appreciate you suggest TiddlyMap for this task, I also think that TiddlyMap is a good choice to model e.g. a "city tour" or "city highlights". In my previous post, I just wanted to present an alternative that also looks promising.

Felix,

Wow! This looks really exciting.

I am interested in place management.

I was thinking that TiddlyMap and TW would be the technology to use, now I see your latest experiment, i could see how that might be even better

Can't wait to have a play!

best wishes

Hi Alex,

This geomap plugin is not designed by me, it is by Sylvain Comte ;)
While it looks promising, I think it is still experimental and not intended to be used as plugin yet…

Thanks for link. This plugin is great. Do you know something like this but with google maps? And opportunity to show your road on the map?

Leafet is really interesting. Slyvain has also made a tool for exporting data to your TW map

@Felix, my TW is getting crowded, would it be possible to have TiddlyMap on a separate screen?

Hi Alex,

there is an open ticket for that at GitHub. https://github.com/felixhayashi/TW5-TiddlyMap/issues/181
I hope I find the time to work on this soon.
