For documentation purpose what is the correct name for a Tiddlywiki instance?
I mean when we are talking about a single html file which is a copy of empty Tiddlywiki or any other type of Tiddlywiki (like editions)

What we should say

  1. A wiki file
  2. A Tiddlywiki file
  3. A TW file
  4. A TW.html file

This is important to have the same naming rules all over doco.

So far I have been using: A TiddlyWiki
with the W capitalized - and without generally calling it a file:
Save your TiddlyWiki
Find your TiddlyWiki

But generally I see it written as:
You can copy an individual tiddler from one TiddlyWiki file to another by dragging a link to the tiddler from one browser window to another.

Mohammad,

Here is what I do, I am always cautious about my choice of words.

I say a "Tiddlywiki instance" for any tiddlywiki, - file or folder based. Remember that it is irrelevant for most of us whether or not it is a file or folder based because it can be either or both.

If and when I need to differentiate, I use "a file [based] tiddlywiki " or "a folder [based] tiddlywiki"

However there are some cases where a "tiddlywiki file" is used simply because that is how we differentiate it, such as exporting a folder based wiki to a tiddlywiki file, or "send me a tiddlywiki file".

I would advise against simply saying a html file, because of my own initiative to also make the .tw extension a valid file extension, in part because html files are for other things as well, this is in part to support using tiddlywiki as smart documents (see other posts of mine). However a html file is an effective description of the technology standard used if it is .html or .tw. We may say "Tiddlywiki is a self contained wiki in a single html file".

I also use the word a "Served" [tiddly]wiki, which could be file or folder based tiddlywiki's, it is just that they are available at a http or https address be it a domain address,  local host (rather than as a file:// address in a browser).

Regards
Tony

Thank you S.S.
Thank you Tony

Thanks for your suggestion. I hope we could use a rather standard form specially for documentation purpose.
Seems Tiddlywiki is favored comparing to wiki. Also file and folder should be mentioned when we refer to one of them.

I would appreciate to have other opinion and put a convention to use it.

My two cents ...

Long form of name "TiddlyWiki" in camel case. In contexts where one is promoting it emphasises its two key components.

Short form "TW" in contexts where its known what a writer is talking about. As in scholarly writing where you you give long-form first, i.e.: "TiddlyWiki (TW)".

The question of name extension ... "tiddlywiki.html" ... normally to emphasize single-file simplicity.

Just thoughts

Hi Mohammad,

Did you check what is already used at tiddlywiki.com?

Would you not need to register ".tw" as a file type internationally for this to get traction? As far I understand it its currently used for databases of radio frequencies or something like that.

I think the idea is good. I'm just unsure how you'd make it viable.
