Folks,

I am building something to curate and present TiddlyWiki solutions and the relevant components or techniques.

This is with the View to presenting Focused Content such that there are different ways for people to discover TiddlyWiki without scaring them off with TiddlyWikis true diversity of posiblities

Please contribute general areas in which solutions can be found. Lets try not to get too detailed just list items that are popular or somewhat generic.

There Is my list so far.

  • Bookmarks and Links
  • Brainstorming
  • Calendaring dates and Timelines
  • Check Lists
  • Collaboration
  • Dashboards
  • Data visualization
  • Desktop Applications
  • Education and Training
  • Fun and games
  • Game Campaigns
  • Home and lifestyle
  • Image galleries
  • Journals and Diaries
  • Knowledge bases, dictionaries and glossaries
  • Mapping
  • Mobile Applications
  • Music
  • Notes, Notebooks and Note-taking
  • Personal Database
  • Personal Notebooks
  • Personal Productivity
  • Personal WebSites
  • Presentations and SlideShows
  • Projects and Project Management
  • Publishing
  • Social media, sharing, comments
  • Spreadsheets and maths
  • Story and screenplay creation
  • Tables, charts and graphs
  • Task management and productivity
  • Web Site Hosting
  • Writing and editing
I am working on a separate list and will post soon for Designers. The above are purely the end use type of solutions that can be achieved with TiddlyuWiki

Thanks in Advance for your Contribution.

Regards
Tony

Thanks David,

The list has really grown, and I like many of you categories, Which I am dividing into Solutions and Developer (for want of a better name).

My Intention is to build content that helps end users see tiddlywiki potentials and in many cases your list includes solutions and links that will be relevant.

I would not want to duplicate your effort but I would like link to it and possible iframe it, and promote submission to your links.

I notice I can generate links such as https://dynalist.io/d/zUP-nIWu2FFoXH-oM7L7d9DM#z=ZwEp6DIkbBgSPUbtBDIrbydS and an iframe

<iframe src='https://dynalist.io/d/zUP-nIWu2FFoXH-oM7L7d9DM#z=ZwEp6DIkbBgSPUbtBDIrbydS' frameborder="0" width="1024"; height="600"></iframe>

What are you thoughts on this?

Ciao TonyM

Its an interesting, ambitious looking, idea.

I'm a but unclear whether you meaning something like a more elaborated version of what David Gifford is doing? ... i.e. a series of pointers to resources--though more organised in terms of final PURPOSE?

One thing you mention is CURATION. If you mean by that hosting examples of finished TW in each of those categories in a kind of SHOWCASE I'm all for it. IMO finished, complete, TW examples are sorely lacking at the moment. I'm sure they exist, but how and where to find them?

Anyway, just thoughts.

Best wishes
Josiah

Tony, feel free to use and abuse the toolmap as you wish. I did it because we all really needed it, and I did it so it would be helpful. But I am not protective of it in any way, and I don't mind if it eventually gets replaced by something better. So use anything and everything from it as you wish. If it is helpful to you, it will have served its purpose. If you use iframes, just put a recognition of the source.

It will be interesting to see what this is, it is hard to visualize from the description.

Blessings

Josiah,

I support the ongoing "curation" of links and Resources David is doing, No need to reinvent the wheel, However I am looking to a pilot a number of vehicles that can ride on these wheels. First provide a place to collect and publish information independent of Google Groups Posts and for that matter Davids links, in both cases refer to group discussions and Davids links. I plan to back this up with integrating conversations into these focused sites, and also having these conversions visible in a network of conversations.

Ideally I will have pointers, even iframes embedded to examples of finished TiddlyWiki's as we create and discover them. However whilst a library of everything should result, I plan to build repositories of information that are focused on  a particular area so that Joe Public will learn about tiddlywiki by searching for that area rather than tiddlywiki, let them discover how well it can  do, say, Personal Productivity, have access to personal productivity resources for tiddlywiki so they do not become overwhelmed by TiddllyWiki (there is time enough for that). Of course related solutions, TIddlyWiki.com etc.. will be linked to, but that should not be the first priority. A Focused site should be about its focused area on tiddlywiki eg personal productivity.

I think you can see I am responding in part to your ideas and suggestions over some months, Josiah, Please respond to my previous "connection request".

Sometimes you just need someone to get things done, we can always adjust later, I feel like I am sticking my head out, and fear people trying to chop it off, but sometimes, someone simply must start. I have put a lot of thought and experience into what I am about to reveal and I have done so by listening to the community and its concerns, including the risk of dilution of the existing methods (what are currently Available), so I hope not to be too far off the mark.

What Other Areas of focus are you aware of?, perhaps trawl your posts in Google Groups for answers, because I know you know :) Josiah.

Tony

David,

I like providing metaphors so people can visualise things, but sometimes they are just not good enough. One has to run with their vision and let the results demonstrate or explain themselves.

Thanks so much for your kind offer, kindly accepted, however I think at most we will feed off each other, You provide me information, I provide you information. At most I expect I may influence your categories a little (as yours have me), so they map to each other.

Imagine a website and multiple conversations taking place for each of your categories, perhaps that is a hint of what to visualise.

Regards
Tony

By "curation" I didn't mean the excellent stuff David is doing.

I meant a single site, or repository, that contains (or at least gives a snapshot with link) of full TW that exemplar the different end user purposes in practice with substantive content. Replete wikis. Under categories somewhat like you list. Somewhat like what is already on tiddlywiki.com (but covering many more use cases). I don't mean minimalist "demos". "Demos" are almost a tradition in TW on plugin releases & they are wonderful, great if you already grasp TW, but usually not complete enough to illustrate a full, working, showcase a beginner can grasp.

I'm convinced a better "showcase" of full wiki instantiating functional aims would be extremely effective in increasing uptake.

Dear Tony!
Thank you for your efforts and the time you put for TW community.

The solution as can have a wider range of audience is very important. I am interested in solution for

Josiah,

Curation is a selective process.

I am not talking about demos or links I am talking about subject area sites that consolidate information about that subject area and the use of tiddlywiki to meet those goals. Perhaps that is the substantive you are looking for.

If heros or exemplars are found they will be presented on the site. If not perhaps someone will be tempted to create one.

From TWaddle (my old blog, or whatever one should call it, that I should get started with again but I'm waiting for the right technology to come around first)

From one of the many unpublished posts there;

(If i recall, "sw" is short for "software" which made sense at the time)

I also found old notes about these links that contain exhaustive lists

Yes,

Showcase sites.

Designed for both showcasing and contributing to the showcase.

Then a seperate set of free conversations for that focused subject area.

I think we are on the same page.

Thanks Mat,

I will go through every one and either connect them with existing ones, or create new focused areas. This is very help full.

Despite wiping up a frenzy in the google group and plowing ahead with this project, I will be doing the unusual and going off the net except for my mobile/tablet in the next day or two.

I have some land out of town and need to reorganise a workshop and storage "container", two 6 meter/12"  shipping containers, I have a car full with items on the roof rack to move. Not that you need to know, but just saying.

Thanks again Mat

Tony!
A multi-user TW is required to be accessible somewhere to let all interested people contribute!
The problem is, we have a lot of stranded resources on TW. We need one place to collect all of them
with the categories like you proposed. From the answers to this post, I learned it is difficult to find
what people already done and what we have for TW around.

Yes, I intend to solve that problem,

To do so, I need to identify how to organise the information. Next I need to find a way to make it easy to collect and publish the details. Now, although I can do a lot of this because there are many resources, I cant do it all, and maintaining it myself would be imposible, so I have a strategy to make it easy for everyone to contribute because they always get more back than they give.

Post script,

Tiddlywiki will be everywhere including multi user however I plan to do this through other mature website and microblogging platforms. This is because tiddlywiki is not yet as scalable nore does it have a rich security and user model.

I hope in time we may replace these other platforms with tiddlywiki, this approach may even drive development of tiddlywiki.

It would be seriously good if some of us were doing live feeds via TW. The Guardian newspaper in UK right now is doing a hilarious live-feed commentary on Eurovision that neatly illustrates the point.

22:10

So that’s it for the singing! Well done everyone, we survived the first half. Now we just have to endure the interval act and the interminable scoring before 1500 journalists start frantically booking hotels in Limassol for May 2019.

Hey,

We are in the euro vision for three reasons.
1. "Euro vision" means what 'europeans see"
2. It has a following here since Australia fell in love with ABBA we are their biggest fans
3. We have tallent and, um...

I hope this suggestion is applicable for this thread.

There are two things that are very helpful and I wish there was more of them around
  1. examples of how people use TW - although there are examples they feel more like a show case rather than how someone uses TW in their daily life.
  2. This one is the more important one:
    1. When one starts with TW - if you are not a web develoer - it is overwhelming and frustrating - you know the idea of TW is great but you feel so stupid for not understanding what's possible or the meaning of key words in the TW world and so you get a massive head confusion etc
      • this affects the ability of the user to create/imagine what can be done with TW - resorting to using it as another text editor - and as such it is pretty annoying....
      • Sure, you cannot teach imagination - but if I know the meaning of a language and use it enough I will finally find ways of expressing myself in that language that are unique to me and suit my needs
        • TW is just a language
    2. One of the greatest revelations for me was when I realized I can click on the edit button of TW that are shared on the web and explore the relationship between what it says in the tiddler [text field and possibly other fields] and how it actually looks like. This has been quite revolutionary for my learning of how
    3. So - Analysis of what you can write in a tiddler's field[s] and what effect they'll produce - such analysis could prove a great learning resource for beginners

Cheers

Thanks for your input. I think a starters Q&A will help where we present key user perspective questions and perhaps a TiddlyWiki For Dummies section?

I will review your feedback in some detail.
