Hello community,

I've been working on a new version of the KeeBoord plugin here: https://burningtreec.github.io/KeeBoord
It works on TiddlyWikies from the current prerelease (v5.1.18) upwards. That means that you need a copy from https://tiddlywiki.com/prerelease to test it.

To use it with the codemirror plugin, you need to import this Tiddler: https://burningtreec.github.io/KeeBoord/#%24%3A%2Fplugins%2Ftiddlywiki%2Fcodemirror%2Fengine.js - save the Wiki and Reload

This version has many new features and improvements:

  • Tracking of navigation to determine the currently viewed tiddler, so that we can act on it using keyboard shortcuts
  • Many pre-made shortcuts
  • Tweaks for Tiddlers in "Edit-Mode":
    • The last selected input field is stored and remembered during a session. It gets restored when editing a Tiddler again
    • alt-Tab and alt-shift-Tab navigates through the input fields (tab and shift-tab works, too)
    • The standard TiddlyWiki Editor knows how to <Tab>
    • Selections within the Text Editor are being stored
    • Opening/Closing the preview doesn't loose focus within the Editor anymore
    • The Editor toolbar can be hidden without loosing the toolbar shortcuts
    • The popups of toolbar buttons display below the position of the text cursor or the current text selection
    • The toolbar popups can be navigated and closed using the keyboard (up/down and escape, Enter to select. "S" within the image popup toggles system-images on/off)
  • Dropdowns like the Tag, Type and Field dropdown can be navigated with Up/Down. Select with Enter
  • A Top Search-Popup is available (alt-F)
    • select search results with up/down. Enter opens the result in the story river
    • alt-Left and alt-Right moves through the tabs
    • ctrl-up and ctrl-down moves faster through the results
    • alt-O opens all listed tiddlers
  • The more-popup can be opened with alt-shift-M
    • up/down to select an entry, Enter for action, Escape to close
  • An action-popup widget so that we can open popups with keyboard shortcuts
  • Additional "openactions" and "closeactions" attributes for the button and action-popup widgets for actions that get triggered when the popup opens/closes
    • I use it to disable for example "Escape" to cancel editing a Tiddler when we open a editor-toolbar popup and set "Escape" to close the popup. When the popup closes, "Escape" gets set back to cancel-edit-tiddler...
    • The plugin contains some macros for backing up existing shortcuts, setting shortcuts and restoring backed-up shortcuts
  • I don't remember all :P

There are some issues that I'm going to address these days, but overall I'm happy with it

If you're interested, I'd really appreciate some feedback if you encounter things that don't work as you'd expect or if you have ideas about what to improve AND HOW ;) (maybe?)

Nice weekend to all,

I have been following along and testing it out. I'm sorry that I don't have any useful feedback for you. I can't wait for 5.18 to come out so that I can finally integrate this beast into my wiki. Thank you for making this tool.

An awesome addition to TW.
I use it with Tiddlyshow only for navigation and it works great for me

I think there's a bug with the tiddler-specific shortcuts feature.

Let's say I have two tiddlers A and B with custom shortcuts assigned.

ActionA and ActionB are the shortcut tiddlers that will be tagged with
$:/tags/KeyboardShortcut when their corresponding tiddler is active.

When I navigate from another tiddler to A, ActionA will be tagged. The same with B.
When I navigate from A to another tiddler, ActionA will be untagged. The same with B.
Which is the expected behavior.

However, when I navigate from A to B. ActionA is not untagged. Same is true vice versa.
So now I have a situation where both ActionA and ActionB are active shortcuts.

@nakedmind , that's possible. I haven't looked at it since the first fast implementation. The mechanism needs to be reworked

Hello Simon,
as I already said, the comment-plugin you use here looks absolutely great. Does it already work? Where does it save? Does it have a php-backend or is it purely TiddlyWiki?

Hi Jan, this comment plugin is a new tiddlywiki plugin. it's available in tiddlywiki's plugin library in the current prerelease / the next release 5.1.18
It works and is purely TiddlyWiki, doesn't save with a designated backend. If you comment on my page, the comment won't be saved. But the next release comes with many improvements backend-wise...
There will be a new server command when using tiddlywiki on node.js and it can be set up to allow different users to edit your wiki with different permissions, so that commenting would work

Hello Simon,
I use the first release of KeeBoord plugin only for navigation (using shortcuts to navigate through tiddler for my tiddlyshow app: http://tiddlyshow.tiddlyspot.com/)
I wish to know is it possible to have a minimal version of KeeBoord plugin and embed it in other plugins/codes to use only such features (navigation)

Hi Mohammad, the basic KeeBoord functionality is now a part of the tiddlywiki prerelease. Try tiddlywiki.com/prerelease and press alt+N

:) !!

Because of that, I can strip the plugin down quite a bit...

The shortcuts for tiddler-navigation are not difficult to create on your own (or to drag over from one of my keeboord wikies)

Wow, that is a good news!

How much of KeeBoord code is now in TW 5.1.18?
alt+I, alt+J and alt+N

The code needed so that users can define their own shortcuts + ...
... + exactly these three shortcuts

I think it doesn't make too much sense to add too many shortcuts and functions now,
time will show if and how this gets used

Simon,
For documentation should I use those in original KeeBoord plugin?
I want to know how can I add my own shortcuts in TW5.1.18. I am familiar
with http://keeboord.tiddlyspot.com/ it should be KB version 1.0

The mechanism for adding shortcuts is exactly the same on the current prerelease as on my KeeBoord pages

My question was:
  1. Where can I find documentation / examples for adding new shortcuts in TW5.1.18pre?
  2. The second question was, how can I add new shortcuts in https://tiddlywiki.com/prerelease/?

I've added documentation but it's not yet included in the prerelease

Yes, as long as the documentation is not on the tiddlywiki page, you can take the documentation on github.com/BurningTreeC/KeeBoord as a reference

Hello BTC,
I made some trials with the new TW5.1.18pre for shortcuts!

First I tried to create some simple shortcuts in a clean (empty) TW-5.1.18pre and it works as expected!  Thank you, it is awesome

Next I imported a little complicated one which is works great on KeeBoord 1 and it failed. I see the red windows (Javascript error).

Is there any change in setting to be aware of that!

If I install the KeeBoord plugin in this latest prerelease everything works as before!
Note in my code I track myself the tiddler under focus (e.g both history list and story list)

As a sample, I use the below code for navigation to the next tiddler

<$navigator story="$:/StoryList" history="$:/HistoryList">

<$set name="parent" value={{$:/state/tiddlyshow/presentation!!current-slideshow}}>
  <$set name="currentSlide" value={{$:/state/tiddlyshow/presentation}}>
    <$list filter="[tag<parent>!tag[slideFooter]!tag[thumbnails]after<currentSlide>]">
      <$action-setfield $tiddler="$:/state/tiddlyshow/presentation" text={{!!title}} />
      <$action-navigate $to={{!!title}}/>
    </$list>
  </$set>
</$set>

</$navigator>

As you see, I myself track of each tiddler clicked or gets focus.

What do you think? Is there any seting in TW5.1.18pre for shortcuts I missed? Why I see the JS error window?

Thank you
Mohammad

Thanks Mohammad, now I remember that there's a fix for "action-navigate" which is missing. I've made the necessary PR, it's a quick fix.

Hi everybody,
great to have this feature in the core... but unfortunately the prerelease is throwing an error in my PreApocalyse-Firefox version.

Hallo Simon,
I am Home again and tried again: The  prerelease crashes also without permalink. (red alert and then the beautifull new splash freezes.)
My FF-version is 38.0.5 ... I kept it because compatibility is important for my usage.

I hope this helps to fix it...

Thanks for your help, Jan! We found the problem and it's fixed upstream. You'll be able to access the prerelease page with your firefox the next time the prerelease page is updated (don't know when this will be)
